v40.20 Known Issues & Pre-Release Updates
Hello Fortnite developers,
Starting in 40.20, Custom Items and Inventory is moving to Beta and you can publish islands with this feature enabled. Using Custom Items and Inventory in Beta you’ll be able to:
- Modify or completely replace the player inventory system and create custom items with unique properties and behaviors tailored to your game.
- Create gameplay that reacts to player inventories, and add depth with systems like in-game economies, crafting mechanics, and more.

v40.20 Known Issues:
Here are known issues that will be introduced with v40.20. We’ll update this thread as fixes roll out or timelines change.
Water jumping is less responsive than expected with Physics enabled
- Jump input is not always triggered inside a Water Volume when Physics simulation is enabled for your island
- Incorrect dolphin jump animations may be visible to other players
- Fix targeted for v40.30 (April 30)
Mouse wheel cannot be keybound to other actions when Custom Items and Inventory is enabled
- The Mouse Wheel Scroll Up/Down binding does not work as “Interact/Use” or function with other actions such as Movement, Building, Driving, etc. when custom items and inventory is enabled
- Mouse wheel slots up and down the user’s Equipment Bar regardless of its keybinding
- Fix targeted for v40.40 (May 14)
Player vehicle changes after respawning in Rocket Racing islands
- Players respawn with a different vehicle than selected
- Vehicle continues to change on each subsequent respawn
- This does not affect players who join an in-progress session
- Fix targeted for v40.30 (April 30)
Inventory UI disappears after being eliminated in an Octane vehicle
- If your island uses the Rocket League Octane Spawner device, players cannot see their inventory after being eliminated in an Octane vehicle.
- Player can still equip weapons after respawn
- Fix targeted for v40.30 (April 30)
Physics props fail to assign/release properly
- When a physics prop moved by the prop mover has Simulate Physics enabled, the prop’s assigned path will be incorrectly altered by gravity and collision. The moving simulated prop will fail to trigger physics events on other devices
- Fix targeted for v40.30 (April 30)
Pickaxe swinging animation not playing on LEGO® islands
- Players may notice the swinging animation does not play when using any pickaxe type (default, spear, dual-wield) on LEGO islands.
- We will add a fix target to this thread once confirmed
