APK Spam vs New Users

It’s either not working, not working correctly or not working yet; that’s a span/m of just 10 minutes:

Note what happens in a lot (but not all) of cases:

  • since a lot of public forums have preventive measures in place, spammers believe they need to legitimise themselves first; they do it by copy / pasting existing genuine posts and having other accounts like  them first
  • only then the post gets edited and a link inserted

Can the watched list be made to look at edits themselves as well, and pluck suspicious entries?

Please do consider not allowing new users (whatever defines one) post links outside of whitelisted domains. If at all feasible, ofc.

Yes, the forum is becoming a SPAM repository… :joy:

I also had my above post moderated and had to wait for manual approval, which I do not mind. So something is shifting, not sure about the direction being the right one, though.

I thought that was already enabled? But then again, I never actually had an need for linking to stuff, on here.

All first-time posters do go through the review queue—along with a handful of the initial posts.

Yes, we’re aware and looking to find measures to monitor/catch these “sleepers”, and working to see how we ensure that flag gets applied to edits too.

Oh, and they’re [replying to each other] https://forums.unrealengine.com/t/minecraft-1-21-31-apk-mediafire-descarga-gratis-2024-para-android/2048823/2?u=scambot45

They’re also doing things like this

I’m pretty sure these two are coming from the same ‘bot’…

Yes, I am your ‘bot’ here. It has nothing to do with APKs, and there is no link you claim to be spam. How ridiculous.

Yeah, I wouldn’t hold this against them. Yes, I find it weird that there’s some variation of the same topic, or the occasional oddball thread about some code that isn’t native to Unreal Engine. But by far, the biggest outlier that I saw yesterday was people asking about how to do something in Unity.

But I mostly just ignore them on the off-chance that they might be an genuine user.

Well once i took new (epic staff) moderator to be some bot, he was just too polite and friendly to everybody.

Interesting… Wonder who that could be. Have an ongoing bet with myself… So going to take a wild guess and presume, there’s a particularly interesting Panda floating around on here. Getting warmer or colder here? If you feel like saying @Nawrot

Reasoning:
Always very polite replies, with zero spelling mistakes… Super-sincere super-encouraging, but quite light on engine or technical details. @Rama showed his hand once too with a telling comment. So maybe there’s a bot trained on Rama energy. :stuck_out_tongue:

Will the real bots on here stand up and be counted? @SupportiveEntity @Mind-Brain @PresumptivePanda … Bet @ClockworkOcean / @Everynone know something.

Can you add this one to the ever-growing list?

Not even any attempt to hide it…

Anyone else having their posts hidden by staff?

Right now, all I did was try to embed an Youtube vid and a link to Wikipedia and now all my stuff that was posted from 2 years ago is trapped in an moderation queue.

And it’s worth mentioning that they’re literally going after my participation in that DM tutorial, lmao.

Hey there @ScamBot45! I noticed that some may have been caught by some spam reduction measures due to a link also mentioning APK in it. Legitimate posts should be being reinstated. If any legitimate posts didn’t end up reinstated, let me know!

Right now, it’s only this post that has been removed by the staff for linking to an documentation page.

And for some reason I can no longer reply to this thread

No worries, corrected the original issue. The second thread seems to be reply locked to everyone, so you should be cleared up!

Yeah, I can’t hotlink to YouTube whenever I reply to an topic.

Spammers are still bypassing Epic filters (whitelisting not working). Suggestion: Stop new posters from EDITING posts (especially adding LINKS), unless they have at least 5-10 previously validated posts… Seems like a small sacrifice, that might also boost user interaction on here (that’s how it was once before iirc)… Won’t directly link to spam here, otherwise it’ll hit a moderated queue wall. So just search for SPAM titled ‘Tall Work Shirts’. There’s also this highly-suspect bot , setting up their next ‘edit-post / add-link’ later trick?
