What is better Nvidia or AMD for latest ue4 and first versions of ue5

I am researching on pc hardware for a gaming/ unreal engine development (I,am not using the latest ue5 versions, probably the first versions). Is a rx 6950 xt 16gb good for it? Because i dont want to spend like 800$+ for just a gpu. Plus does intel or amd cpu make a differene?

You can just go with whatever CPU and GPU you find are the most suitable for you while making sure to pair them appropriately. You don’t need to worry about whether your system can run UE5 or not when you already got a gaming setup. So what kind of games you’ll be able to make with it becomes the question.

16GB of VRAM is great! (It doesn’t change much that it’s AMD) You won’t feel any limitations unless you’re working on really large realistic scenes. It can handle many demanding tasks all at the same time.

Another important aspect would be the RAM capacity. The minimum recommended RAM capacity for UE 5 is 32GB. You might experience some lag every now and then with 16GB of RAM but it wouldn’t prevent you from using the engine of course. You can also consider going with 64GB of RAM even if your project will not be a very demanding one, because it would visibly improve performance compared to 32GB of RAM, especially when VS is open alongside the editor.

Additionally, which engine version to pick depends on the needs of your project. You don’t need to stick with 5.1 just because you don’t have the most powerful GPU out there.

Hope these help! :innocent:

No i haven’t built the pc yet so thats why i was asking. Thx for the detailed response! I am not aiming to create the most realistic projects out there, but ive heard that Nvidia features are very important for ue so i just wanted to know before building the pc, thx for clarifying.

Hi, Nvidea does not work with Unreal Engine.
You will have to use another engine like Source 2, Godot, CryEngine or Unity.

Absolute BS

Ignore this person

(Btw there’s a bug on the website, sometimes when I try to quote someone, the quote isn’t posted plus my post seems edited. So I added the quote again and it showed up as the second edit. Weird)

Like this has been ignored?

The proof is right there.
Your turn.

You might have experienced certain issues with your Nvidia card while using Unreal Engine. That doesn’t mean this:

It’s totally fine to share your experience with it, but this is clearly misinformation. Your specific issue can’t be generalized to this extend. What do you even mean by that? There are a ton of people developing games with Unreal using Nvidia cards.

HI I see your running a 3080 when i had one in my system and ue 5.1 at the time i think because it was close to min specs of 8gb vram but not 100% hope you get a solution. I am now using a 4090 and other than waiting for dlss to update from nvidia i am using 5.5

Cheers

I suppose it depends on what you mean by “it works”.
A broken clock works as a paperweight.

The next update might have you upgrade to 5090 for 5.6.
I wonder what new things will break?
I feel like I opened the Hellraiser box when I started using Unreal Engine.
You think you have it fixed and manage to get a good 3 days out of 7 for work (those are the good weeks) and before you know it, Unreal says “We have such sights to show you” and then it will tell you your GPU’s been removed for adding a decal of a leaf.

Honestly the open world i am working on has been working with only a few bugs and maybe 2 or 3 crashes due to me in at least 1 case I am happy as i can be. Coming from unity where i did have a good few crashes . the main reason i went to a 4090 gpu is because i seen how much windows uses of my gpu running 3 4k screens hahaha.

My 3080 has worked fine for all 5.# so far. :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Hell I had the same with a RTX 2090 ti in 1080p with one monitor.
Its why I built a new PC from the ground up.
I went so far I even replaced the hdmi cable and the fuse in the socket.

Im not joking.

Are you sure you are running Unreal Engine?

you tired reinstall direct x from download on ms site

think I am :grimacing:. Might need to check to be sure.

You know what, I havent.
Honesty where its needed.

Hell, right now id make a deal with the cenobites for an email response to my emails and bug requests.
I’ll give that a go.

Until then, I am going to be here telling everyone what I have encountered and what I think until they fix my problem (or refund me for all of my assets & sort out my lost contract).
I am part of the furniture on the forums now.

I have such sites to show you.

5.5 is a funny number come to think of it. Thats exactly how many months I have been having this problem with Unreal Engine.

Good luck hope it gets you working for ya

Cheers! Best of luck on your project and I hear the Valve Development team are most excellent at responding to issues.

Say hi from me when you get there!
