sg.PostProcessQuality 2: works on rtx4070 ti with last drivers thks

Thanks, but again - lowering the post process fx quality is NOT an option for most people, so it doesn’t ‘work’. This reduces the quality of many things outside of Depth of Field (and also uses a much lower quality depth of field). People have also demonstrated this is still occuring in PostProcessQuality 2 on the latest drivers - see screenshots above.

This issue is actually starting to become quite bothersome now because some of the latest Adobe software does not like 577 and requires the latest NVIDIA drivers. I’ve submitted this bug to Epic twice now and had no response/acknowledgement.

Can confirm after doing multiple tests, (including sg.postprocessquality 3 etc), the only way to fix this is to roll back drivers to 577. I rolled my studio drivers back, and turned the sg.postprocessquality back to 4, and it rendered just fine.

5.7 the problem is also present

I waited for half a year to upgrade to UE 5.5 trying to avoid something like this happening… I didn’t realize at first, so I would revert projects to 5.4… if I could.
Each new version comes faster and with more bugs…
5.7 and still same issue is nuts! Do Epic care about people doing cinematics in Unreal? I’m starting to doubt that…

Can you give us a link to the bug report so that we can vote?

I never kept the emails, unfortunately. I don’t have the bug reports links anymore.

I have created a bug report myself. I only got an email with the case, no link, not sure if this

helps:
Case # 22172159: Horrible DOF in cinematics

Still happening in 5.7 with latest game ready and studio drivers. Have to revert back to 577 which introduces issues in other programs. I’ve just been rendering out a depth pass and comping in DoF for now. Which obviously is not a fix for everyone.

Would love to see some sort of confirmation from Epic or Nvidia that this is being worked on? I will look into the Nvidia dev forums and see if the issue is posted there. Since this is a multiple version issue I’m wondering if this falls squarely into Nvidia’s plate.

+1 This is a serious issue, affecting regular gameplay too (not only the Movie Render Queue):

NVIDIA Driver 580+ makes the DoF low quality - Development / Rendering - Epic Developer Community Forums

This is the problem I’m having now. Quite a few of my other apps are having issues with 577 (Adobe especially).

I can’t believe how long this issue has been going on with no response, mention, hotfix etc.

DOF looked like hot garbage before today’s UE 5.7.1 hotfix release. I just rendered my animation and it looks so much better!

Yes in 5.7.1 they really fixed it, thnx UE Team. We are waiting for earlier versions.

Can anyone that has had the same issue with a project they can test in confirm it’s fixed?

I’ve just tried 5.7.1 and 591.44 drivers and no joy - it still looks terrible:

it’s very dark scene dent see clearly, for me btw, everything has improved, in any case, the quality on objects very close to the camera will be poor, so you can play with the r.DOF.Kernel.MaxForegroundRadius parameter. By default, 0.025. By the way, one guy wanted to make a cool plugin for DoF, but it looks like he abandoned it - Depth of field quality - #6 by Sebastian .

It’s not abandoned, it’s just lack of time. I can’t estimate a date, I can only say I’ll still make it, unless Epic makes it first. When I’ll have some news I’ll post here and there on forums.

Cool! It will be great to make news on this topic as well.

I’ve just tried 591.44 nVidia studio Drives in 5.5 and 5.6 and the issue is still there… I will have to revert to 577 drivers and pray for someone to fix this… I don’t want to jump to 5.7 and find new issues

I’ve contacted nVidia and create a new thread as they requested.
