FAB Problems

On old UE publishing portal I used to be able to hide the assets that I sell. Now if i hide it it needs to go through review process again.

A workaround for now would be to Unlist the listing, then immediately submit it for review without auto-publish. That way, it can get approved and then you can publish it without waiting when you’re ready later.

We want to work towards a better system where we diff the versions and only review when (and what is) necessary.

Ultra Dynamic Sky and all PO-Art Models won’t install for UE 5.4

Hello! I can’t buy anything if I don’t run it through the “plugin for UE” version and I can’t publish models either. On the first window it says contact support.

For me the big ones are

Must Have

And I mean it, at this point we can’t offer our products on FAB because its simply not fit for purpose and until these at a minimum are in place we will not be putting anything else on this store and are likely to remove what is already there in the coming months… trying to give Epic a chance to respond.

  • Review System
MUST have text reviews just a score is completely ineffective in every way shape form and fashion. I have no idea who thought it was okay to pull that Retail nonsense but no the FAB store’s customers are businesses, not consumers … sure there are some consumers but be real aside from hobbyists with disposable income only micro to small enterprises is spending a couple of hundred on a few models, a framework, a system integration, etc.
These customers need to be able to research before they buy and step 1 of that is “testimonials”, “reviews”, etc. yes your gona get some non-since in there … you want to run a store you have to find a way to deal with that … removing the feature is not an appropriate answer at all.
  • Subscription
No, I am not talking about the BS Adobe, Unity, AutoDesk, etc. pull I mean an updates/support subscription. Pay once and updates and support for life are NOT feasible for software tools, integrations, etc. The pay-once model is fine for a product … software is a product … but updates, and support … are services that have an ongoing cost and need an ongoing form of monetization.

Should Have Had at launch

I have no idea who thought it was okay to launch FAB with fewer features than the stores it replaced but here are some additional things you should have had and tested with focus groups before you opened the doors … honestly before you even announced your intent I am shocked at how often Epic has made this same mistake you would think they would learn.

  • Questions / Community Hub
Doesn’t matter how you do it really … the questions section was fine or you can do as Steam does and have each product have a little “community hub” with a simple forum and chat or whatever else you like but there needs to be an official, part of the FAB echo system channel for clients/customers to reach out to the publisher. This can be in addition to each publisher’s own channels but there really needs to be a channel that is under the control of Epic that everyone can simply expect is there and is viable
  • Paid Upgrade
Some software/tools prefer to use a yearly or “paid upgrade” solution to account for the recurring cost which fair enough to each their own … the store NEEDs to support that as well.
  • Engine Installers
At BARE MINIMAL the FAB store should have been integrated with Unreal … there should be a tool in UE that I can use to browse, import, enable, etc. my assets … I know you sorta kinda have that in the launcher and it doesn’t work for crap. Take for example Quixel assets … before you switch to Fubar All Business (FAB) … … I could click a button and have the desired assets in my project supper easily… now I have to browse through a list of feck’n zips and archives to figure out what I want and manual import … W…the actual …F where you thinking with that?
Beyond that, if you want to even be considered an option for Unity you need to take a few min to build a simple integration to do the same in Unity. Both Unity and Epic are stupidly easy to extend so this shouldn’t have taken you any real effort at all, especially with your own engine this should have been that thing you did on day one of someone having the concept of the FAB store … how do we integrate it with the Editor/Launcher in a seamless natural way …

How have you not been sued

Okay, these points are an honest question … how has Epic not been slapped with a ton of takedown notices?

  • No Generated Content
Ai-generated content is not appropriate on a commercial store. I don’t care what your fee fees are the licensing for them is AT BEST a grey area and in business, we avoid grey areas especially when there is no return on that risk. Ai-generated junk is clogging the store, it’s putting small teams at risk that might end up using something that is going to get them slapped. You need a HARD stance against distributing generated content of any kind.
Put simply if you are not the rights holder in everyway you have no business to do here. This isn’t deviant art flogging fan art to adoring fans. It is supposedly a resource for developers, creatives, and others working in multimedia or related businesses.
  • No trademarked/copyrighted content
I shouldn’t even need to say it … but apparently someone does
As with above … if you are not the rights holder you shouldn’t be here. I should be able to trust that Epic has vetted the content they are selling … and make no mistake Epic … you are the merchant of record … you are the responsible party here. you need to remove everything from the store that isn’t properly licensed and it is not an “ah sure put it up and if it has a problem we will take it down” … no you are going to cause HUGE issues for your self … and for your clients. You are spreading that risk because we can’t trust anything that is on the store now we have just stopped using anything from it and we advise our community of 3000 or so devs to do the same. This is a HUGE issue you need to treat like its a FIRE and have all hands on deck to put that mess out.

General Feedback

Okay so now the normal stuff that you should be able to focus on if you had launched a fit-for-purpose store to start with.

  • Wishlist / Fav
Some means that I can flag an asset or a publisher as something I want to track. This should then also modify how the store shows me things … so you know Steam … ya that Steam the one you thought you could outperform by just throwing more money than god at it … ya that one … look at how they have tuned the store to understand the customer and adjust the various lists, pages, etc. to show the customer things that might be of use to them
So that is the bar you should be reaching for … don’t worry you don’t have to reach it but you need to reach for that. and little things can help. Like a wishlist, that can then inform the front page, lists, suggests, etc.
  • Event Calander
It should not be a secret what sales you running and when, you should have a simple calendar on the publisher portal showing all your intended promotions ideally with a way we can simply opt in to them. This is not complicated, a free Wix-based website can do this … I expect the all-mighty Epic could to.

Okay I could keep going but I doubt anyone reads much of that so I will stop there

I read it all, and although many of the points you raised have been made in individual posts, seeing them all laid out like that really hits home…well said.

I don’t game dev I just make models for them. So for me there are two things you didn’t put that really matter.
A search engine that correctly gives you what you search for. I have posted about this, with follow ups and I’ve been told they’re working on it…I fail to see any improvement.

Next…A good 3D viewer.
I have posted about my main concern which is the wireframe view. Fabs viewer doesn’t show the models wireframe as it really is, unlike Sketchfabs 3D viewer which does.
This means all the hard work I put into creating a quality model with an all quad topology is for nothing! Because if you look at my model on Fab in wireframe, as a buyer I’d not buy it based on the topology, it incorrectly displays.
When I posted about this last week I was told Fab are considering using Sketchfabs way of displaying it…you know…showing the wireframe as it really is.
As of today it hasn’t been changed.

Anyhow…I’ll stop here, but I could go on…

Simple solution like embedding Sketchfab viewer would cut it. It would also save thousands of workhours trying to get the models right in the new, broken 3d viewer.

This environment?

When I sort my library by purchase date, it shows items purchased in the past day, week etc. This is wrong, as I have been off-task for a month, I have not purchased any assets since the changeover.

I’d like to be able to see / download previous versions of the assets as well - This is important at the moment pending clarification about comments on asset license changes being tied to asset changes. @skfabby made what is to me a confusing statement to this effect in another thread. I thought I was clear on licensing, but apparently not…

Second Item on my “WTF, fix this list”. … I have attempted to download each receipt from my transaction history. Dozens of (individually!) requested receipts, Zero email received, no errors posted when requesting, nothing in my junk folder.

Previously I was able to filter plugins in Vault, now that option has disappeared and it tons of catogires (and mostly useless imo) from fab.

Also it seems new releases no longer get launch visibility anywhere.

Also the homepage does not list plugins or audio files.

I have posted this in a separate topic but since this page is being monitored by staff for sure.

Also we don’t have any analytics to help us see which marketing activities were successful. no free download counters, view/purchase ratio counters or anything like that in the portal. Marketplace had the free download counts.

Also having upgrade paths would be good like unity’s where you can release the next year’s version of the asset and set a price for those who own other assets different from the listed price to implement the yearly upgrade price idea.

can you fix mine Please? FAB Static meshes turn Dark/Black a few seconds after starting playing,

Couple of things on my end I’ve seen.

-Fab plugin keeps asking me if I am a human. I click the box and it thinks for a moment. Asks me again if I am human. Not sure why that’s a thing now.
-Tried accessing my library and won’t let me. Keeps saying I need to use the plugin, which…read above.
-When using World Partition, I had to disable the Fab plugin to allow the building of the mini map.

  • We need ‘numbering’ back, to see the total assets in our Library, and the total assets within any Seller.
  • We need to be able to filter out all assets already purchased/added to library, so we can see what we have missed.
  • When we search for “roast”, we should not be getting irrelevant results, like “coast”, “toast”, and “boast.”
  • We should be able to ‘batch tag’ our Library items in order to create our own custom folders
  • Many of the current assets have been mis-categorized. For example, why do some metal atlases show up under the ‘wood’ category.

Hi Katerina,

Thank you for monitoring the issues here.
Just wanted to say, I’m a software developer and we have QA and support too. However we do inform end user that we are looking at the issue they have reported. Its a tedious job but we still do it and list issues that need to be fixing or those that are not related.
Don’t you think it is better to at least acknowledge the bugs somehow, like known issues and pint it on top, so we know you are already working on it?

It’s been a month that Fab is online and MarketPlace is gone. Most of the basic functions that were available in Market place doesn’t exist here yet.

Discounts, Purchase in my own currency, Favorites, Questions and text reviews, sort, search, marketplace categories, some free items that were supposed to be available but can’t access anymore.

And most important changes in EULA and T&C that doesn’t allow me to use part of an asset or use a single modified blueprint from an asset in my own product …

Would love to see at least a comment on the bugs that you are looking into it. Or something is solved so we try to use it.

- The four Featured thumbnail links (at the right side on top of page) not working in Opera browser. Right mouse menu offers no copy link

We now bought our first assets from FAB and can’t even download it via launcher. Just some generic can’t download error. It’s have a day now, restarted Epic Launcher and PC several times.

Its almost 2025 and Epic is still not able to have a simple marketplace?

Turns out when clicking a featured thumbnail it changes the slideshow, which includes a link to the featured item. Two clicks instead of one and not very convenient for me.

hey, download in the engine with Fab plugin i had same error yesterday - not sure about plugins
