Nothing has changed in my workflow or settings outside of updating to 41.00 and an out of video memory error comes up and UEFN crashes (or sometimes Fortnite). I have a 16GB 4090 and an i9 with 32GB of memory. I’ve heard quite a few people are having this issue so I’m posting a bug finally.
Fatal error: [File:Z:\UEVFS\Root\Engine\Source\Runtime\Core\Private\GenericPlatform\GenericPlatformMemory.cpp] [Line: 300]
Ran out of memory allocating 3259194 (3.1 MiB) bytes with alignment 1. Last error msg: The paging file is too small for this operation to complete..
Hi Graeme, you may have run out of page file commit (virtual memory), causing it to crash. Is it possible that other programs are using up the rest of your virtual memory?
According to the log file it seems like the editor is not using more than 30 GB of the 130 GB page file
You can also look at adjusting your page file maximum above 130 GB
I really don’t want to touch my pagefile settings as that is supposed to be a last resort for a computer to use because it’s so slow and inefficient and causes premature wear on hard drives. 130GB is a crazy amount as it is.
To note, nothing has changed in my workflow or computer from before 41.00 and after. Nothing new installed and nothing changed. I wish it was my computer that was the problem but this hasn’t happened for many versions of UEFN and now it happens all the time. Interestingly it happens only in one project so far. Other projects it doesn’t crash. Something in the project is causing excessive memory consumption and it’s running wild but I have no idea what it could be.
I talked to Garren as well as UEFN will crash by simply trying to check files in, literally upon clicking that button, so he’s submitted in to the bug as well supposedly.
VSCode is constantly disconnecting as well and can give me an indication when UEFN and/or Fortnite is about to crash. Everything is so much slower.
I really hope Epic finds the change they made that is causing UEFN to consume too much memory in comparison to before. I ordered more memory to upgrade to 64GB and it arrives today and I’ll probably not have this issue, but 32GB on a machine should be enough otherwise development for Fortnite games is just going to be priced out for too many people maybe? Not sure, but it was fine before 41.00.
just a side note, this also crashes my laptop which also has 32GB in it and is running a 4080RTX with i9 in it. Oddly, it happened when I moved the “edit list” panel to another spot that would hide it as there doesn’t seem to be a way to stop it from popping up all the time. Maybe related…
I upgraded my memory to 64GB and so far no crashes, so I won’t be much use to determine what crashes UEFN in this case but hopefully what I’ve provided will help.
i am also running into the same issue uefn crashes almost every time after closing vs code and wont allow to launch a session after the first crash have to restart pc.
