Coming Soon: The Unreal Engine forums are leveling up!

We’ve pushed a fix that appears to have addressed this. Would you mind checking it’s working for you?

Considering how hostile this forum can be to Epic developers, I’m not surprised they’ve largely abandoned it.

Yup, links are back!

There’s 2 issues there.

  1. When an epic employee speaks out addressing a direct question with wrong information - that’s a problem.
To err is human, no doubt.
Redact your answers and moderate the flaming out - As epic employees they all should have that power directly.

  2. just insta-ban the hostile ones. Ad hominem and such are against forum rules anyway.

Arguing about the “best way” is one thing - and it can often lead to both people in a thread improving on their knowledge.

If the problem is that they “spoke” and they don’t want to argue.
Ok. Sure.
Lock the ■■■■ thread.
Unfair AF, but its better than never getting an official answer.

There’s likely about 3 billion topics with open ended issues that were never officially answered by an epic employee, about 1.5 billion of which do not even have an answer.
At least 1 billion of it is a mesh up of cry-baby posts with no info at all and just whining…

ON that note … @Amanda.Schade
Please consider the possibility of creating a “problem” template to use on the forum that forces the children therein to fill in the proper fields without crying…

Forcing some basic info on all the “this don’t work” posts could drasrically improve the community posts. And the responses they get when they get any…

If I was up to me, I’d even force a screen-shot. That way they have to actually think before making a post.

I’ve seen one or two random threads with issues still, but it looks like the vast majority of external links are working now.

Just noticed this too, a post from 3 years ago I replied to, and then 2 days ago made a video to help another user with putting media on a curved screen, appears to be deleted.
Edit: here it is in google.
Edit2: Here it is on Google webcache but my last reply and the replies before it are gone.

Wouldn’t it make sense to make a user survey about what we think about this design? Since we would be the end users.

Although I’d agree that any change will face resistance, I really dislike this new forum. I can’t find any advantages to the previous version: the default dark-theme is really bad for everyone’s eyes, the “endless runner” mode is surprisingly disorienting (I truly miss pages), and it seems to me that most of the screen space is wasted.

I think that, for a professional forum, usability should be more relevant than merely flashy modern UX designs that become tiring after a couple minutes of real usage.

Edit: Now almost all google search links to forum posts seem to be broken. If this isn’t fixed then roughly 90% of the available knowledge of UE4 will be lost forever :stuck_out_tongue:

Given the amount of pointless old topic resurrection we are getting.

  1. yes, the links must be fixed.
  2. I did say the date on the post needs to be much more visible…

In fact. Why not directly ASK the user if he really wants to reply to a 4month plus old posting?

Hi Amanda, thanks for the prompt response on the broken links. The links to main threads seem to be working fine now, but those that redirect to specific posts within those threads are all still broken for me. Are there any plans to fix them?

Also, I’ve had images missing from certain posts, like this one for example: https://forums.unrealengine.com/t/tower-defense-starter-kit/57044/317?u=stormrage256
I had shared images to explain the changes in a new version of my marketplace product. But they’re all gone now.

This is not ‘leveling up’, this is ‘going down the drain’ :poop::poop::poop:

i was going to say they just lost all 5 lives and now health is at 1% but you got it before me lol

Some more feedback from my job forum thread.

Video players are way too small in my opinion. Maybe have 2 or 3 options for sizes?(shown in red)

Image metadata at the bottom part of an image is covering too much space. In my case this makes it impossible to showcase the UI of the game screenshot that I want to show-off. This is not ideal for artist and designers to show their art, too, imo. It obfuscates too much of the image.(shown in orange)

PS: You cannot see the orange part because it is obfuscated by the metadata…

Gotta agree on this. I asked for orthographic shadows, a simple fix, and a feature, and they pretty much just flipped me the bird and responded by changing the bug tracker entry to “by design”, seen here. Unreal Engine Issues and Bug Tracker (UE-11026)

Thats what im saying, make the toolbar along the top or the different tabs, labeled file, edit, window, and help into the different topics or something.

please fix this link
https://forums.unrealengine.com/development-discussion/rendering/1537277-toon-shading-models-stylized-rendering-experiments

please fix all links*

@Amanda.Schade
Can you please look into recovering older post images?

Check the top of this discussion for instance.

Initially I thought nothing of it, but it is the 4th topic I open where old snapshots are gone.

Needless to say we rely on that function to share answers with users, so if all images from pre-update are gone, we just lost years of solutions to problems…
