In some of my older posts images (attachments) aren’t just gone but they now show some completely unrelated image I have never seen before: [Android] World of Bricks Released!
second that! thread subscriptions were a nice way to bookmark threads and now they’re all gone
I like the new forums, Discourse is a great platform IMHO that puts the focus on active discussions instead of hiding the activity in a big forum structure. It makes it easier to discover new topics you might be interested in.
There are still some rough edges and a lot of great feedback has been provided already, like looking to how BlenderArtists.org handles the overview page (second that!), but I’m confident in the Epic team to work that out over the coming days and weeks.
from me!
Yes, exactly. BlenderArtists are a great real world example of discourse success by utilizing it properly. And much of that success lies in persistence when it comes to polishing rough edges after the migration from older forum system.
By that I mean not giving up on changes, improvements and customization of the platform for specific needs of the given community shortly after migration is finished.
Honestly, just give me phpbb and I’ll mod the out of it in a day to the point it works and looks better than discourse.
The only reason I never even check mentions on blenders forum is the forum itself.
Illegible most of the time.
If you’re on a mobile device and just want to chat about whatever is a popular topic at the moment, then Discourse is a good choice for that.
However, if you’re using a desktop computer and are looking for an answer to a specific problem or information on a particular topic, then the previous forum software was much better for that.
Personally, I’ve never come here to just chat about random UE topics. I usually check the latest announcements every now and then or look for answers when I have problems.
Most likely I will be checking the news section and using a general search engine instead from now on.
Are Google links broken or something? Lots of results lead to “this page doesn’t exist or is private”.
How do i - or allow me to
either
-disable badges
-disable badges notifications.
After using it for a few days, it is definitely growing on me. First thing I did was turn off dark mode. Completely unreadable for me. That said, once I let go of the old forum paradigms in my head, I am liking the more responsive read/unread tracking and forum tracking and the like. What I think needs to be fixed is the post replies going both in-thread and in-line. That just seems like a glitch. Also I think a lot of people here were really relying on badges and such as symbols of knowledge and authority. Taking those away would certainly leave a hole in their soul. Sigs, I personally don’t care for, but I know a lot of devs relied on them for self-promotion, and it is a nice reminder to see what else they are known for. What I really miss, though, is a clear indicator of the last poster on a thread (not just some icon). I’ve gotten to know a lot of devs here by reputation, and if I see one that has replied to a thread (or the thread creator for that matter) I am more likely to click through just to see what they had to say. Usually it is a solution to someone’s problem, which is always a learning experience for me.
The font is really horrible and very hard to read, especially if there is more than one line of text. Can you add an option to change fonts, or at least line spacing?
Maybe someone won’t agree but this is just my opinion. I have been using forums for over 30 years. These new forums with infinite scrolling, unadapted fonts, and extremely poor navigation and visibility are in my opinion the worst possible kind of forums. The forum should keep the form of the forum clean and clear.
I used to enjoy reading the epic forum, everything was clear, simple and clean. Now I can barely last more than 2 minutes on the forum. Painful and slow navigation, design and structure that is tiring. This is not a matter of habit, but an experimental search for newer technologies, and this is a very bad choice in my opinion.
Hadn’t noticed that one earlier. Seems I’ve got the same issue as well with images in my older posts. The ones I uploaded have been replaced with some random images. I really hope this can be fixed.
Due to the limited number of Avatars available, I’m thinking the Avatars would serve a more useful purpose in showing ones Primary “Game Dev” Skill/Group Affiliation. Please share your thoughts…

The Audio Design Composer Producer association is spot on, cracked me up.
What if one qualifies for more than one of these? And who would decide? Would there be some gate keeper who would have to evaluate if one’s skills are at sufficient level to qualify for the avatar? Or would people simply choose themselves? If so, what would prevent them by simply choosing the picture they visually like the most?
Haha. Just noticed.
0 gate keepers. 100% Freedom of Choice. Change them at will. It would only have relevance if it becomes a popular use for them in amongst Forum users.
Yeah, I think badges are just better tool for that And they already work! I feel like turning avatars into group identifiers is kind of turning a limitation into a feature.
I’d still just prefer custom avatars, but at the same time, I can understand why Epic folks are reluctant to allow them. Exactly because of people like me. There’s a dickbutt.jpg safely stored somewhere on my hard drive, awaiting its moment to become an avatar and shine
I identify as a Potato.
I demand my potato avatar.
Hey all,
First of all, thank you for your ongoing feedback. It’s incredibly valuable and we’ve been pouring through all of it, even if we haven’t been able to acknowledge each and every one directly.
A brief update on where we’re at now:
FIXED
- Bug causing some users to receive extra email notifications
- Old forum links now correctly redirect from external sites
- Updated settings to reduce new user spam
TOP PRIORITIES
- Restore missing topics/posts
- Update topics that are displaying the incorrect image
- Remapping URLs
- Reconfiguring edit privileges for established forum users
We hear your desire to put more content on a page (reduce padding and unused space), improve readability (light theme, font/font styling), and so forth. Once we have mock ups and have cleared everything with design, we’ll circle back for your feedback on these updated, or new, themes.
Again, thank you to everyone who has shared their feedback and we really appreciate your patience as we work through the bumps together!
