Can anyone tell me what about my thumbnail is cause it to fail the content review?

So to start, I have made a few “islands” that are a gun game gamemode, but I have been having some frustrations with the thumbnails. I’ve currently dealt with it by changing the thumbnail around until I found which elements were causing it to fail the content review, but I feel like I’m being unjustly denied.

I went to publish another island tonight with this thumbnail:

The result? Content review failed. The reason:

" Please address the following issues, and then publish a new release using the Creator Portal:

  • 1.11 Keep It Authentic - When promoting your island inside Fortnite, the assets (such as thumbnail images or videos) you use to represent your Fortnite island must accurately represent what players will experience in your island; you must not mislead players as to the sort of experience they will have. You may not incorporate photographs. You must not incorporate elements that mislead players with regards to XP gains, in-game items, or Quests. Where Fortnite already provides a visual element to indicate a feature to the players (e.g. the ability to earn XP in your island, or the selection border of a game tile), you must not imitate or supplement it.
    • The promotional image"

For reference, the previous thumbnails that I had made that were being denied all included the images of the weapons and “weapon x” & “weapon y”. As soon as I removed those from the thumbnail they passed the content review.

So lets break this down…

“When promoting your island inside Fortnite, the assets (such as thumbnail images or videos) you use to represent your Fortnite island must accurately represent what players will experience in your island; you must not mislead players as to the sort of experience they will have.”

-Weapon 1 is the pistol you start the game with. Weapon 50 is the 50th and final weapon you recieve (before looping back to the beginning).

“You may not incorporate photographs.”

-I don’t think the weapon icons count as photographs?

“You must not incorporate elements that mislead players with regards to XP gains, in-game items, or Quests.”

-I have done no such thing. Again, Weapon 1 is the pistol you start the game with. Weapon 50 is the 50th and final weapon you recieve (before looping back to the beginning).

“Where Fortnite already provides a visual element to indicate a feature to the players (e.g. the ability to earn XP in your island, or the selection border of a game tile), you must not imitate or supplement it.”

-I have not claimed any ability to earn xp or anthing of that nature.

What has been upsetting about this is, well just take a look:

11 out of the top 16 gun game maps (according to fortnite.gg at this moment) all have nearly the same type of thumbnail as what I was trying to use. I just can’t see any reason why the thumbnail I made fails the content review when nearly 70% of the thumbnails of other islands are apparently just fine.

I have tried contacting support about this and both times I have been told they can’t give me specifics about why my thumbnail was denied.

I’m sorry for the rant but I do feel kind of justifiably annoyed.

So back to the original question, can anyone tell me what about my thumbnail is “not acceptable”?

Recently, they stopped allowing weapons on thumbnails, all previous ones remain

This gave me tons of headaches!! its not the weapons but the white glow around the weapons(highlighting) remove it and it will pass!

Hello! This is something that our Player Support team can investigate for you to give more information regarding those rejections. Please reach out to Epic Games Technical Support & Customer Service | Epic Games with the island code for the island being rejected. I also recommend reviewing the guidelines here for possible reasons for those rejections: https://www.fortnite.com/news/fortnite-island-creator-rules

I’m marking this as the solution. That is the GOOFIEST thing ever. I remade the thumbnail without the glow and like you said, approved.

I was in contact with support before, the response I got wasn’t particularly helpful. “I can confirm that I cannot get into the specifics regarding the elements that were rejected.” That was all I was told along with the same link you provided which only tells me the exact same thing as the OP of this post.

Apparently adding a glow effect to weapons in the thumbnail is misleading? It was just meant for readability in the thumbnail but oh well…

I had the same problem. I was publishing a unlisted project to see if there is any inconsistancies or lag related issues that don’t always appear on private builds but the system declined the publish because the thumbnail was a screenshot of a scene from the game but taken within the UEFN editor itself.

I dunno if this is the image recognition being dumn or the staff.
