So a few months ago I posted my first map and on the first day just like a normal newly posted map would do it got on the new and updated tab which gave me 25k impressions , now its been 3 days since I published another map and right when I posed it I promoted it on a small channel of mine witch got it like 40 plays so my question is did epic not put my map on the new and updated tab because its doing ok on its own or does it sometimes take longer to get a spot because my map is basically available just by search and any map should get at least the chance to get on the new and updated tab to give it a start-up.

answer if it can take more time to get your first spot on new and updated
We have the same issue. All of our maps to date have gotten into new and updated at least once, but our latest island listed on November 8th never made it into Discovery.
I have 1 map that has never been on any discovery tab and its been out months.
I have a friend who has also never been on discovery and the maps have taken months to make its crazy. You reach out to the creator support and they do not help in anyway tbh.
Went on Relaxing for like 20 mins on Oct 29th ??? It got released in August and took months to make yet its been missed by the system then went on Relaxing.
Almost three weeks and my map hasn’t even been on discovery yet. Published on the 26th October. Must be common to miss putting maps on discovery, this is the first this has happened to me and seeing it happen to others.
The image Flak shared mentions them having to prioritize what to give placement too because there are too many maps to give placement to everything that comes out.
This article also shares what they look for to consider a map innovative (verse, using devices in unique ways). At the session they mentioned you can’t just do things like add 100 triggers to the map and consider it complex.
I recommend finding ways to make it unique with the systems and they haven’t said this part but… I also believe having strong visual design helps. The way I see it, if you put effort in and it will be rewarded. If you copy a basic map set-up or rush something out it probably wont do much.
my gungame one i made an entire forest and a full visual system with crown leader ect very complex my friends maps are different and are definitely better than the standard escape room ones
I just played your gun game. Compared to other maps that have multiple trackers, timers, events, cinematics, 20+ different devices, etc. it was pretty bare. Plus the design seemed to be the same 2-3 props pasted repeatedly.
I don’t think this means you have a bad map, it looked cool and your idea for the king is awesome. I’m just saying as far as it being complex and lots of variety of props and devices it seems to not have enough there to get a prime spot. They get thousands of maps so at this point you really have to excel in a lot of ways. I know you may not like this reasoning now because I didn’t when I happened to me and also felt I was doing great things at the time. But after you become an even more skilled developer than you already are it’s easier to look back and see how much better your next projects can be and how much more you can do.
Not enough to get a prime spot? Your saying low memory maps struggle to get in discovery? What if the gameplay its self is unique and good enough for the players? Like like these maps below that are pulling in decent ccp numbers.
Yeah these are great examples to back up simple maps do not get prime discover placement at launch. If you go back to when they came out they pretty much got no love on discover positions. But the maps/marketing are so good that through search, maybe social media and the little exposure they did get they made it work.
Even if you don’t get new and updated it does typically still test your map in other ways like putting it on recommended which you don’t see on GG. Like those spikes where all the sudden you have 6 players for 20 minutes. That was your chance where you got pushed and if it didn’t do what it needed to they wont keep pushing it. But these for example didn’t get much love with a row due to being so simple, but because they are so well marketed and well done they make the most of the exposure they do get and blew up from there. At least that’s my best educated answer not knowing everything about these.
I understand that a high CCU is important but the reality is that it’s much easier to get a high CCU when you are in Discover compared to buried in Browse or one of the new Collections.
If a high CCU is needed why not put ALL maps into browse or collections to see how they do there before getting pushed into main Discover? When we have maps go directly into new and updated they do much much better than when they only appear in browse and never in main Discover. It would even out the playing field this way for sure.
It just seems that it’s all over the place right now and far from being fair. I’d love to really know more how and why some maps don’t ever go into main Discover after release and others do.
