Why do navigating the menus keeps crashing?

I keep crashing when I navigate Menu UI. I have Nvidia 4080TI.
I’m using UE5.1, Nvidia Driver 535.98 Game, Windows 11 Home 22H2.
I tried the Studio driver version as well. No difference.

I uninstalled / reinstalled 5.1
I’ve set the Nvidia control panel to use Nvidia only. I’ve restored settings. nothing works…
At this point, It crashes every time I use a menu and cannot continue work :frowning:

Any ideas??

Hey there @a1exomusic! Could we see a crash log? It will narrow it down. You are abled to find it in your saved/logs and saved/crashes folders inside of your project folder.

UE5.2 same here with Geforce 1080 Ti, if u play with the menu for some time u can crash every time! (Window 10 22H2, nv driver: 531.79), that nerves a lot!!!

Hey there @FunTaraReal! Welcome to the community! Sorry to hear you’re having similar issues. May I see the crash logs? I have many possible workarounds, but I’d have to know which issue is being triggered to recommend a more specific course of action.

In the meantime this thread handles some graphical crashes, but other workarounds/solutions not mentioned in this thread include (but aren’t limited to)

  • Reverting to an earlier driver build (most Nvidia)
  • Reverting to studio drivers
  • Custom installing raw studio drivers (without Geforce experience)
  • Stopping use of any utility that touches GPU memory

This log looks like the main body log itself, could you grab the most recent one from the crashes folder? You can even cut it down to the stack trace (where it starts showing errors and specific lines) but you don’t have to. Also on the forums is if you use this character set (minus quotations) and close it the same way, you can get a closed code block that can scroll, like this:

Hrm, that log doesn’t contain a proper stack trace at all just a reference to the crash GUID. Some of the errors listed aren’t usually fatal so they aren’t much to go on, but we can treat them while we see what’s going on.

These are pointing to missing DLL files, if that’s the actual root of the problem you may be able to verify the files in the Epic Games Launcher or a true reinstallation. Does this occur with all versions?


If you want to keep trying to find the trace here’s the path to do that:

So first head over to your Epic Games Launcher and verify you have Editor Debugging Symbols and source installed:

Then launch the editor, and get it to crash. When the crash reporter comes up and asks you if you want to submit it to Epic, copy the trace it shows, then paste it over here.

If we can’t get a stack trace, we can try to work from symptoms alone. From what it sounds like, it’s possibly graphical and I have a couple of threads with a bunch of possible solutions/workarounds. However if it’s anything else it’ll be a bit harder to work out without a trace. I’m also tracking this issue across a few threads.

I took a fresh windows 10 installation image and the same nvidia driver for the display.
Now it works. I guess some installed program does this trouble but i haven’t figure out yet.

Ahhh so it’s pointing to slate checking an incorrect memory location (or more specifically invalid location). Does this occur when you open the bind menu at all or only for already bound grooms?

Im not sure the problem is intermittent. When I hang on the menu UI it does not log the crash… Im not sure how to tell. I will attempt to get more crash data and post,

Understandable. If it’s visual freezing but no crashing we could continue looking into graphical fixes, as they don’t always crash the game.

This thread I mentioned earlier could walk you through some things that can mitigate/workaround/fix graphical based issues.

and this thread describes a desperate graphical solution but it’s a bit much.

Switching to vulkan rhi in project Settings solved my problem for now.
