Water reflection turns white at camera border

Hi there, I’m having a problem with my water, it gets white at the borders of the camera, and this is really weird in VR. Can anybody help me, please? I don’t know why this white thing appears…

Thanks!

Hi Keiii,

This is caused by screen space reflections. Since only what is visible within the camera’s view can be reflected you can get artifacts like this at the edge. To combat this the new Planar Reflections is a good way to have nice dynamic reflections on smooth surfaces like this.

Hi Tim, thank you very much for answering me!

We’ve tried the Planar Reflections, but unfortunately the performance was not good in VR… any suggestion?

Thank you very much!

For VR, Planar reflections are not yet fully supported. They’ll work, but there are some known issues and the performance hit is definitely something you’d notice!

You can try reflection captures near these areas to help reduce the effect or lowering the SSR quality, but with open areas where you have a large open view similar to your screenshot it’s much more difficult to hide a screen space oriented reflection like this without fully disabling or reducing the quality so that it’s not as noticable. There are plans to improve planar reflections and VR oriented development, especially with VR and the new Forward Renderer available in 4.14. Screen Space options like SSR and SSAO have not yet been implemented though. Likely for 4.15’s release along with other missing features.
