Before the newest update, I was able to run UEFN on my computer. Now, I cannot run it anymore. I think this is due to the game now using UE 5.7. To be honest, it ran poorly already as my laptop is 5 years old and kind of a cheaper model that uses Intel UHD. I have no clue if you all can help backlog the system requirements to make it more broad for older devices, but I guess that’s the only plea I can make. Otherwise, I may have to get a new laptop. Any cheap recommendations that would work great for running UEFN decently would be greatly appreciated. As a solo worker, I’ve worked long and hard on my map, and though it is a longshot I still don’t want to give up on the project. Any response would be greatly appreciated, please and thank you.
This was previously sent to Epic Support, and they kindly recommended that I ask the question here.
What exactly happens when you try to run UEFN? (Are you getting a crash?)
Are you still able to run Fortnite?
What is your specific CPU / Integrated Graphics Chip? - If you Open up ‘Device Manager’ on Windows, those will be under Processors / Display adapters. Posting this specific info about your hardware will help with correlation if others with the same hardware start experiencing this problem.
First, I get a notification that the installed version of the Intel graphics driver has known issues in D3D12. It then asks if I want to install the recommend driver version, or switch to a different rendering API. I have said yes to this already, and I have downloaded everything the program thinks I need, although still not enough to appease the system pop-up. This pop-up is nothing new to me though. However, now (after the update) when I do click yes or no (to installing it), I am hit with “A feature level 5 video card is required to run the editor. AvailableFeatureLevel = ES3_1, ShaderPlatform = PCD3D_ES31. I have no other option but to click ok, as it will close and stop UEFN from running.
My processor is Intel Core i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz
My graphics are Intel UHD Graphics, v27.20.100.9664 (date 2021-07-29), and claims to be “up to date”
8GB of memory, storage capacity at 475.62 GB, free space 126.02
dunno if this is a candidate for running with the -d3d11 flag (or whatever it’s called)?
but I will chip-in here and say that my main laptops are only 16GB RAM and since v36 they almost cannot run… so i think an 8GB machine (which was low-end, even 5yrs ago) might be time to retire as a media player.
Glad to hear it’s working now, be sure to remember to remove that launch option after a few updates. (I’m assuming this will be fixed in an upcoming patch) The reason this broke is related to the new DirectX 12 performance mode in the 37.00 update.
If you forget that you’re running in DirectX 11 mode, you might encounter some strangeness in the future. (For example, if you try using higher scalability settings: Nanite and Lumen require DirectX 12)
