Unlimited distance for spotlight

When I create a spotlight (especially in a fog situation with volumetric scattering) I would need it to be visible from any distance. Right now, if I move too far it disappears. Sorry if this is a noob question.
Thanks

Just set your attenuation value really high. Like impossibly high. And have a high intensity on that light.

Can’t be done with volumetric fog. You’ll have to fake it with a translucent material on a cone (or a camera facing billboard) or build your own volumetric effect.

Got it @Arkiras , thank you, that’s actually what I ended up doing, a card. Pity, is that just a technical limitations due to complex calculation of volumetric lights and distances?

@CorsairOfLight , sadly it has no effect as there is no correlation, thanks for jumping in though.

I’m not really qualified to give a proper answer but my crude understanding is that volumetric fog is done through a volume texture attached to the camera frustum. It has limited resolution, you can extend the range a bit (through the view distance in the volumetric fog options) but you’ll get undersampling errors. The resolution can be increased, but not enough for “unlimited distance” and it has an extreme performance cost.
