Tree shadows disappear with distance

Hey!

As shown in the video, the indirect shadows/occlusion are disappearing from the trees (both foliage and static meshes) after a certain distance in my UE 5.1.1 scene. I guess it’s normal for a game engine but I want maximum quality, so does anyone know a fix? Worth mentioning is that it seems to be more the “ambient occlusion” that disappears. If the trees are directly exposed to the directional light they do cast shadows, but the occlusion is still disappearing after a certain distance.

I have played around with Distance Field Shadows, Lumen shadow distance etc with no results… I have the problem both with nanite enabled and disabled, and I have checked ‘‘preserve area’’.

Thanks,
David

In regards to the shadows/ambient occlusion disappearing at a distance on your foliage, have you tried increasing the distance on the dynamic light? I’d also look into increasing your far shadows(Cascade count). I hope this helps!

Hi again!
Now in this thread :))

Try changing the “Max Trace Distance”: PostProcessVolume->Details Panel->Global Illumination->Lumen Global Illumination

That did the trick for me, hope it helps!

I will try this when I get home today, thanks!

Hi!

I think I have tried this before but I will give it another go. Glad that you solved your issue.

(Är du svensk förresten?)

Ah oke, yeah thanks!

Jupp, det är jag! hahah, vad fick dig att gissa det?

Increasing ‘‘Lumen Scene View Distance’’ did the trick for me! Thanks.
