I am actually doing a livestream this evening around 7:30 so you can follow my channel and catch me then!
Tonight I will be doing some work on a scene I have in the making. Some more landscape sculpting and material creation! Might even get some foliage and lighting in there as well
if i can make a request :
please share some tips and ideas to achieve high quality environment scenes with landscape, especially on making materials and blending .
In the video (min 30:00 aprox) you spoke about hotkeys to change brush & falloff sizes. Sorry for my english, but I dont speak this language naturally.
¿You said open&close brackets in the video? ¿Same as photoshop?

I use an spanish keyboard, and the ] symbols are in diferent place. I mapped Alt key to use UEngine in same way as Maya(Pan-zoom-rotate).
I tried diferent ways ¿What is the correct combination?
Also, ¿Is there any hotkey to change the camera speed in viewport?
@AndrewHurley sounds great but will you be uploading these to youtube - twitch deletes old videos after 2 weeks I think now from what I understand. would be a good idea hint hint
(not sure it was from watching the archived video but the sound volume seemed really low, could barely hear or understand what you were saying)
Thanks for letting me know. I’ll try to fix the volume levels for this Thursday’s stream. I usually like to have a little music playing in the background as it helps with my creative energy, and helps break the silence when I am not talking.
I am also working on getting the saved streams archived to youtube. OBS usually breaks them up into 15 min sections (x4) for a full hour. Either way, thanks for the heads up.
Yes, my personal streams have gone over this topic in greater detail. I did try and explain the differences between Alpha Blend, Height, and Weight blending and when best to use them. Also showed users displacement and some tricks when decided to blend various textures. Is there something in particular you are looking for, or just general how to information?
Hey , Really really enjoyed the stream. I am in the process of building landscape in UE, but I am using a height map.
I’m watching the stream again as there is so much information in there.
During the stream you provided an example of how a 4x4,2x2 base can save on resources (mesh draw calls) compared to a 8x8,1x1.
How would you apply this to a height map brought in during the build of the landscape?
Is it as simple as adjusting the base size?
P.S - So looking forward to your foilage stream and hopefully more more more…
Any dates for the foliage stream?
There is no way in spanish keyboard. The - and -] keys are using in combination with “AltGr” key.( AltGr+] and AltGr+])
The UE4 keyboard shortcuts, ] are asigned to:
= Grid size decrement
] = Grid size increment
There is no such “brush size” there.
Searchig for the “brush” hotkey in the list appear:
brush alpha, brush circle, circle brush, etc… but nothing fot the size of the brush. ¿where is exactly the brush size??
In that case, you’ll want to go into the Editor Preferences and see what the localized Keyboard shortcuts are for your editor. If you’re using the English settings, then you can just remap those inputs in that same menu.
Really great stuff “Andrew”!. We appreciate all the tips so far and looking forward to the rest of Landscape Training. Many users of UDK myself included know that UE4 Landscape Editor is a blessing & powerful package but lack understanding how the features work. Please “Andrew” continue to enlighten us along the way. UE4 is vast let alone “Landscape Ed.”. It will be nice to include tips on “Heightmap” usage in combination with Landscape plane; advantages & disadvantages. I tried it and can produce some strange results(sudden crashes)at times and or freezes; overall it works but…
@ : You are doing a fantastic Job Man. I am sure the community appreciate having a cool guy and hard working individual like yourself. I personally do and thanks for your continue contribution.
I go to watch part one so I can follow on through to part two only to find the video disabled by owner
Went to the Youtube channel and it like looking for a needle in a hay stack, everything just dumped, go to play lists NO can’t see it or it’s name doesn’t state anything about these two sessions and are for 4.7 4.8 I have no dout for a beginner there to much changed for beginners to get a clear understanding
I was looking for more of a general how to covering the basics for landscape materials with multiple layers. I was having big troubles with them in the UT4 (yes UT not UE) editor. All of the old tutorials were out of date referring to things like a used with landscapes material flag that no longer exists. But with the next patch to the editor things started working as expected, so it must have been just bugs in the UT4 editor causing me grief.
Edit: Oh and the part about the different blend types was very useful. Thanks for that!
