i dont understand. Crash only if i open my sceletal mesh from 4.13.2 -_-. wtf? and log wont creating…

The log’s not being generated in YourProjectFolder/Saved/Logs? There should at least be something there because a log is created starting as soon as the editor is opened.

its super crazy. character created and imported from my assets on site totaly hang and crash Engine… Very strange. I need deeper experiments with testing skeletal meshes to find crash source… its posiblty to hang GPU on load asset skeletal created in previious version?

Never had any notable recurring crash issue with previous versions. Had been messing around with 4.14 for a good week or so (but just programming), then tried to open a UE4 Mannequin’s Material Instance in an existing project and it freezes up. Repeatedly, and reproducibly (at least for me). The attached bug report is from a new blank blueprint project in 4.14 where i have ONLY opened it, set up a basic material with a base color, roughness and metallic properties. Made two material instances of the master material, added one of these instances to the default floor slab in the editor (which turned black which was not correct). I then created and opened one more material instance and it was frozen. So . . back to 4.13 for me.

I think i found a workaround for that crash. You can run engine with opengl 4. Just create shorthcut (UE4Editor.exe) and add this to end of shorthcut path -opengl4 -opengldebug (-opengldebug optional) or you can disable directx options in project settings/windows and enable opengl then reset engine.
eg “G:\Epic Games\4.14\Engine\Binaries\Win64\UE4Editor.exe” -opengl4 -opengldebug

I can’t run editor with debug arg (-d3ddebug)
Because client has a new crash

But i have reproduce steps for this bug related with HUNG.

  1. Open “Content examples” from epic launcher or from editor as example
  2. Open map “PostProcessing”
  3. Click to Build (button in editor)
  4. Crash ! :slight_smile:

Im see this error before - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE REMOVED 0x887a0006.
Usually its related with NVIDIA and Intel GMA driver. On My Alienware m17xR4 sometimes its happends and with non-unreal DirectX applications.
Guess its not a Unreal issue and required NVIDIA/Intel fix. i5 have iGPU (GMA), so its can be this issue.

I can’t work with UE4 (4.14.1) because Editor has crash every time after any manipulation in the Editor.

  1. scrolling by scroll button in a meshviewer , panel properties.
  2. after build project (if selected shaderModel 5)
  3. And any random cases.

Here’s one. Attachments says invalid file to .log, changed it to .txt.

Ue 4.14 keeps crashing like crazy for me due to dynamicRHIcrashes (“DEVICE HUNG” – > device lost – > NVIDIA kernel crash) & providing poor performance in compare with 4.13 which is impossible to crash for me.

I’ve sent many reports to support including DXDIAG and more

I own Asus GTX570 DirectCUii & seems like these errors are due to comming dx12,

so i am working on project back to 4.13 until issues will be fixed or will i need to upgrade GPU ? ? ? :smiley:

anyone tried or checked if this could be from a NVidia graphics card patch or update or tried reverting back to a working patch etc. yet?

We are seeing this crash across a variety of drivers, so it’s not specific to any one.

We have reproduced this crash internally, and are currently in discussion with NVIDIA to narrow down the cause and seek a resolution. We appreciate’s help and information with this issue.

We believe most of these crashes may be related to realtime GPU stats and timestamp queries on older Nvidia cards. For those who experience these crashes regularly, we’d like to ask you to try this temporary fix while we work on a permanent solution.

If you are able to open the editor, please open the command console (`) and run: r.gpustatsenabled 0

If you aren’t able to load into the editor, then you can edit the consolevariables.ini file located at Epic Games/4.14/Engine/Config by adding the line: r.gpustatsenabled=0

Been using Editor for 30+ minutes now without crashing, so it seems to work, Thanks.

I tried changing the GPU Stats console command, but it did not prevent the graphics driver crash i have been getting on my GTX 570, Win 7, 16 gigs, 8 core i7, UE4.14.1.

Repro Steps:

Desktop/Console > Maximum Quality > No Starter Content

open Sedan_SkelMesh
change the material in a few material slots
after changing 2 or 3 material slots, the graphics drivers will crash pretty consistently
