The Unreal Marketplace Improvement and Feedback Thread

If sale has shown us anything, it’s that the marketplace also urgently needs a shopping cart. At least two people on our UE4 Discord have reported that they got their credit cards locked out, because they had to make a dozen purchases one after the other, instead of just buying a whole shopping basket in one transaction.

Definitely agree with you.

Thoughtful. A big sale like today is awesome, but why does it have to be such a mainstream day, when everybody else is offering reduced stuff. I think UE market should time there big sales independently, maybe April 30 (First release Unreal April 30, 1998).

The last sale the marketplace did a couple months ago ran for weeks, and was independent. I’m sure there will be others like that. Cyber Monday is understandable due to it’s popularity.

I love how its 2016 and the UE4 marketplace doesn’t have a shopping cart, kinda embarrassing lol

It happened to me too. I had to use a prepaid Mastercard and although there were 50 Euros left after spending 250 Euros on the marketplace the Epic servers thru Paypal denied the card telling that I needed to use another payment method. I still wanted to buy some discounted packages but I couldn’t, my last purchase failed with a payment error, it was a very cheap payment of just 2.90Euros and with 50Euros left on the card it shouldn’t have been a problem. I didn’t retry to buy the same item nor anything else.

Moreover, items on sale should have been organized in categories.
and subcategories are also needed… I sell music and the whole category is now a mess, without any sort of categorization by style, genres, game-type etc.
introducing tags to the items could also help people to find what they are actually looking for.

Hi everyone,

It took some time, but I was able to gather a list of the features and requests you have posted within particular thread. Please let me know if I missed anything so I can add it to our internal list of features we are considering for the future. Please note, those listed below are limited to the community requests and aspects that affect the community directly, all Content Creator requests that we’ve compiled will be added here once the list is complete. We cannot guarantee any or request will be implemented, but we are looking at what options have been suggested to find what works best for the future of the marketplace.

  • Shopping cart
  • Better sort/categorization/search features
  • Wishlist
  • Model Viewer
  • Pricing based on Local Currency
  • Rating Updates
  • Show Top Paid and Top Gross Assets on MP Pages
  • Sale Item “Skill Level”
  • Reduce Community Featured time to 2 weeks instead of 1 month
  • Connect MP to Github builds
  • Transaction/invoice data improvements
  • Rotate features throughout day
  • Event Sale Countdown Timer

The list looks good. Two things though:

I’ve spoken out regarding model viewers due to the insecurities around such a system. If it were to be implemented, then let it be a choice and not a mandate. Many of the online 3d viewers are susceptible to extraction which would be a downside.

Skill level was debated a lot in the past, and one of the things that kept coming up was how to you gauge it. Not everyone can be lumped up into black/white categories such as beginner, intermediate or advanced for example. is another thing I think should be considered carefully.

Other than that everything looks great, especially better sorting/filter - preferably through tags.

Your list is missing a fair approach to default sorting, both within sales and generally. Eg. randomized on refresh.

But more to the point… I don’t really get it. Your list has less items on it than the list that began thread with, almost two years ago, the majority of which are still unresolved. Then there’s the 500 posts made in the meantime, not to mention all the other suggestions made elsewhere.

The marketplace still doesn’t have any kind of tagging system, categorization is often not intuitive, and the search box doesn’t even work properly. People have been constantly bringing up fundamental things that need addressing for years now. I don’t see what is gained by trying to consolidate everything into a small list where you just end up losing sight of what most everyone considers a no-brainer necessity, and what is just another that would be nice to have.

Hi everyone,

The purpose of list was to place everything in a singular location so that it wasn’t necessary for individuals to read through 13 pages of content to gather the same information time and again. There may be some overlap, however the original list posted by is being added to with information, not overridden. list is not in any particular order, though the Tags, followed very closely by the shopping cart, are certainly the two most requested items. These two items are definitely on our radar as items of interest. It is important to note that we do not guarantee that any of the items on the above list will be implemented, and that the purpose of list is purely for consolidation to make it easier to navigate feedback thread.
, I agree with much of what you’ve said in your most recent post. The model viewer in particular is something that, if it were to be implemented on our end, would require a number of safety measures to prevent abuse. I believe the context of the skill level recommendation was a minimum required skill level as opposed to an “intended for X” style of skill level that would be most likely determined by the Content Creator, acting more as a suggestion than a hard rule.

I have one remark to make.

is about the community featured assets. I feel like that idea, as good as it may be, will not amount to much. One/two community featured assets per month/per 2 weeks is in my opinion just way tooo long when you consider the amount of assets that should be potentially highlighted. If we want to give forgotten assets a to bask in sunlight, shouldnt we rather improve the way ppl can keep track of interesting assets (something like a wishlist) and the way buyers can write reviews and the like?
I know that wishlists have been requested a couple of times (and is listed above) but reviews (which are in my opinion quite important - at least for myself) seem to have been neglected so far.

So first of all, I would like to request a way to post reviews in parallel with the opportunity to comment on the respective asset.
And second, I would like to have a way to up-vote on assets in order to show that I am interested in more reviews for asset. The vote count would be publicly visible and people who bought asset can see it in a certain table view, where assets are paired with the count of review-request-votes. way, people who are in the mood of writing a review (occassionally myself for example) could easily find an asset to review.

And well, tagging all the assets in an appropriate way will probably do a better job than highlighting an asset for 1 month through a community picked process.
But even then, I would like to see assets being cured by the community. But maybe, in future, we could do through a certain tag “community pick” tag. People could filter for tag only anytime they wish afterwards.

All I would ask is that you please take directly to sellers if you’re getting ready to move on something like that. It is a very delicate and one that has kept me from using the Unity Store.

As for the skill recommendations, I feel that could work so long as it is expressly communicated that way. Otherwise people will complain that a product wasn’t as advertised (i.e. “it says beginner, but I’m a beginner and it was hard for me”). That’s a problem we can all avoid if is handled correctly. =)

I would love a skill recommendation system because I have had that problem in the past with buying a product that says its for beginners but using it and not being able to figure it out, or there is no documentation going through step by step how to get it working. I am a visual learner and not a programmer or good at math so any setup that is KISS, Keep it simple stupid and is well documented is welcome with any marketplace asset

A skill level visual warning is good but I think that no content creator selling on the marketplace should be allowed to avoid providing good documentation on how to properly install and use any assets package being sold. Regardless of who is the buyer and his/her actual skill level the seller must be obliged to properly document the product being sold. I think that that is the bare minimum rule along with ensuring that the package works correctly.

I don’t know about other asset types but all blueprint assets has to have Editor Tutorials.

if you change pricing to local currency, please make it optional
I am getting 20-30% better conversion rate if I pay with foreign currency ($/E) compared to Paypal conversion rates

As the cybermonday passed, I would like to make a wish… Could you please, add shopping cart to the marketplace. I know im not the only one asking …

Not sure if it’s mentioned before, but could we get the ability to filter searches to a specific category. It’s really frustrating to either have “search everything” or “filter to category” without search. I’f I’ve already said show only blueprints and then type in a search term, I don’t want to be shown all categories with that search term.

  1. It’s been stated that “Featured” assets will be featured for 2 month only, yet Dungeon Architect is getting a 3rd month now.
  2. It’s been stated in September that we will get custom third slot poll, yet we did not get a poll. Third slot is promoting another poll about November.
  3. Why outdated asset that being featured for 3rd month in a row is being kept, yet slot for NEW items on Marketplace FRONTPAGE is replaced with a POLL about previous month?

Also, seems like stickies amount got out of hand. is what user seeing upon opening Marketplace forum:

Red are stickies, green are assets. I don’t think it’s useful to have 90% of stickies in full screen

Hi ,

The Dungeon Architect will be replaced with October’s featured after today, as we are awaiting the results from the final voting day. We are still discussing which options of those from the community are possible to see which will be available in the poll. Additionally, I see what you mean about the stickies, I’ll remove a few that should have been taken care of.
