Strange lighting bugs, only after lightning build

Hey!

When I import my heightmap, the lighnting looks good. Smooth like a insert funny reference here. But, ironically, after I hit “Build lightning”, this is the result. Clumby shadows… I didn’t change anything in the “Tutorial Third Person” default light. Do you have any ideas which option could cause this?

Before you build the lighting, you are getting a dynamic lighting preview, which as a result, does not use baked light maps and looks correct. Therefore my first thought is that there is a problem with your mesh’s lightmap uv’s. Make sure that they are not overlapping, are spaced out correctly and have enough resolution. Then try re-baking and see if you still have an issue.
Best wishes,

Matt

Thanks for your reply Matt! How do I check this? I just imported a heightmap via the inbuild heightmap-tool. Shouldn’t every heightmap work? Also, it is the same problem with every heightmap…

  • click on your landscape - lightmap resolution (details panel) - change it to something between 3-6
  • I personally would decrease the specularity effect
