(SSR.Quality) & Building Lighting

Hi; I have 2 questions about (SSR.Quality)

Q01-

I had found many advices talking about how to control the SSR.Quality…they were:

through the “console command”

through the 'PostProcessVolume"

In the “BaseScalability.ini” file

But; don’t know which one would be the best for high quality result

Q02-

Does modifying (SSR.Quality) have any relation (effect) with building Lighting…?

I mean; shall I use it before OR after the building lighting process…?

Thanks & Best Regards

Hey cadviz -

Q1 - I recommend using the Post Process Volume (or Player’s Camera, which is equivalent) as it is controllable level to level and not really as cumbersome to set as a console variable. You would only change the BaseScalaability.ini if you wanted a whole engine and every project solution. In any case you can achieve the same results.

Q2 - SSR is Screen Space Reflections and is a Dynamic property which would have no effect on the lighting build UNELSS you are also using the Sphere Reflection Capture Actors which case your are using SSR and Captured Reflections and the captured reflections may affect the build (only in terms of indirect lighting though).

Thank You

Hi Eric;

Thanks for your time & advices

Concerning the Sphere Reflection Capture Actors… Yes; I do use many of them

I’m working on an ArchViz (Exterior scene)… For lighting I had used only one Directional light as a Sun & a SkyLight

So; do you recommend to put the (Sphere Reflection Capture Actors) in their final places before the lighting build…?

Here is a capture for my level after Lighting build

Yes, I would place them using the temporary lighting you get while you are editing and then build lighting once they are placed. You could always run a preview light build as well to double check placement before the full production quality build.

Hi again; I found a statement saying

-make a post volume

-scroll down to screen space reflections

-change quality from 50 to 100

-and now the magic…type in “r.ssr.quality 4” into the console command and then it works!

The thing is…if you go from 50 to 100 in the post…nothing happens when you dont tell the renderer that it is allowed to render them at max settings, which is quality level 4.

So you need to do both and it works
