Regarding the data stored in the subsurface buffer in the Subsurface Profile shading model

Regarding the Subsurface Profile shading model, which relies on a Subsurface Profile asset to achieve SSSS effects: Unlike the standard Subsurface shading model, I noticed that when inspecting the engine buffers, only the Red channel appears to contain values.

I also observed a strange behavior: I duplicated an existing Subsurface Profile asset (ensuring all parameters were exactly the same). However, when I applied this copy to the material, the value in the Subsurface buffer actually shifted, increasing by approximately 0.008.

Could you explain the specific function of this buffer value? It seems inconsistent that identical profile settings would result in different buffer values.

Steps to Reproduce
The launcher version of the engine is reproducible.

Hi,

thanks for reaching out.

Can you please explain your method for measuring these values? That will help me investigate this issue further and determine if this is a bug or regression that potentially needs to be reported to Epic.

Thank you,

Sam
