Player cast shadow disappears and reappears when moving around. Is this a bug? Or am I overlooking some setting? If i stand still when the shadow disappears then move slightly it comes back.
Hi Steve,
Could you provide a little more information about your scene?
With your lights in your scene are they all Static, Stationary, movable or a combination of them?
I’ve seen this issue before when some areas are only using static lighting (which won’t cast shadows on a dynamic object such as a character) and other areas are using stationary or movable lighting. Once the player character moves beyond the bounds of the light that can cast a shadow on a dynamic object the shadows cease.
Verify this is the case with your setup. If needed switch all lighting to stationary or Dynamic and try moving around your scene. If you’re still seeing the same results there may be more we can look into.
Let me know!
Thank you!
Tim
Hey Tim
Thanks for your input that helped me solve the problem. i now have perfect shadows by changing all the lights to Movable AKA dynamic (facepalm!). Im still getting used to Unreals new terminology and lamens terms im used to things being named dynamic and static so yeah slowly starting to understand the method to this madness, clearly the pros werent thought of when planning out this engine its trying to appeal to a bigger user base i get that. cheers
Glad that worked for you! I think I would have to agree with you just a little on the naming sometimes!
I was used to referring to BSP as BSP and in UE4 it was called Geometry, at least until 4.5 when it went back to being called BSP.
