Photorealistic car UV layout/retopology


I am want to use Unreal Engine for design reviews in the automotive studio, but the UV and lightmaps are not working for me. I use Alias or VRED to export high quality FBX that use triangles rather than quads. Not only that, but the UV mapping gets heavy to do in Maya. Is there a simpler way? Do I need to retopologise the models? I have tried with Maya to no avail. I am thinking of using the automatic tool in Mudbox, but am still yet to download and try.

If anyone can point me to automotive pipeline examples that would be perfect. Thanks!
