Packaging Opens Second Unreal Instance, Gets Stuck, "Completes" With 200MB Build

As the title says I’ve been running into a problem that is preventing me from packaging. This happens with every project I have created that I try to package, however I have been able to successfully package Lyra with no issues.

My problem is that when trying to package OR cook (for Windows if it matters) the process will start and then for some reason open a second instance of the project. Once the second instance opens, the process gets stuck and won’t progress any more. Then if I exit out of the second instance of the project it automatically “completes” the package, says it was successful, but only has 200MB in the folder. I’ve tried leaving it stuck for a few minutes to see if anything happens but nothing ever changes. This has happened with my actual game and with the blank shooter template Unreal comes with.

When I packaged Lyra it went just as it was supposed to, never opened a second instance of the project, never got stuck.

Let me know if you need any information, I’d really appreciate any help on this.

Strange.

Have you tried VERIFYING/VALIDATING Unreal?

Yeah, I did. Same issue afterwards unfortunately

Going through the “list”, did you try migrating your project into a fresh project and package it there?

I was going to suggest reinstalling, but because Lyra packages with no issue, there is an unwanted script triggering the behavior.

I did and it still happens. I migrated to a blank project and the same thing happened, opened a second instance of the project, and got stuck. The same thing happened with just a blank shooter template that comes with Unreal.

Ah, then it is a core issue.

You’ll need to uninstall and reinstall, if you haven’t already.

If you have, then I would contact customer support, but any real help is unlikely.

Submitting a bug report is probably the way to go.

I’ve just uninstalled and reinstalled Unreal and unfortunately it’s still happening.

If you uninstalled and reinstalled and can’t even package a default project, something is greatly wrong.

Could be a driver issue. I have no idea.

Submit a bug report. I’d attach a video to corroborate your complaint.

Will do. Going to try a second Windows install just in case, see if it changes anything.

As a last update, I put just a clean install of Windows and Unreal on a SSD and was able to package just fine. So something somewhere is screwed up, no idea what. But if for some reason anybody else is running into this issue, that’s what fixed it for me. Basically just going to keep a second Windows install with only Unreal on it now.
