My two bits on the new format / style…
It looks completely unprofessional.
Few days passed since update, but the forum is still looking amateurish and repulsive, so I am reckoning that this appearance is here for good, which is quite disappointing.
Hi, here is my feedback:
- new layout looks less clean and more “all over the place”
- I can’t find where to choose my avatar (as it seems we can now “enable avatars”, I’m guessing there should be a place to set it)
- I’m not able to quickly see whether or not there are new answers on threads I’m subscribed too
- Bagdes look pixelized
- It’s harder to navigate between threads’ pages
- I’m not able to quickly find my forum settings and theme (still didn’t manage to at that time)
- Previous layout was more seamlessly integrated with the Unreal ribbon at the top / bottom of the page
- Pages could take up more screen space on 16/9 screens (and adapt for Mobile instead of always being compacted)
I understand the need to switch to a cleaner / newer forum structure. But you lost way too much in the process imho.
Looking forward some changes to make everything cleaner.
- Missing / Hidden buttons more visible
- Wider pages
- Cleaner buttons
Days later and we are still stuck with this childish eyesore. Most people would say that forums are primarily used for reading, ergo readability should be important to the forum design. Not Epic. Well, that’s all I’m going to say for now. My eyes can’t stand having this website open any longer.
(If I use ctrl+ a few times, its still ugly, but at least I can read it. I shouldn’t have to though. This is supposed to be a professional forum ffs.)
While i can’t really find any indication regarding rules that would deny me to mass quote many person in one single post here, neither does limit me to advertise an another thread for these people, i’m still just going only recommend you all nice people to check upon the neighboring thread of the work in progress dark theme, you can install and use for the time being, until Epic makes its moves regarding the look of the website.

Also, there is no folder structure in “subscribed threads” anymore, all my organization is gone.
I am sorry BUT … why so many issues? And why didn’t you there at Epic Games just mirror the whole forum database to another server and beta-tested the upgrade there? When it was ready and only you should have migrated the main live forum to the new fully tested version. At that point it would have been trivial regardless of any new data in the forum database because it would have been highly unlikely that any changes could have triggered any bugs not covered during the beta-testing phase using a days or even months older copy of the forum database.
I really don’t understand why you are doing all of this… I mean this way… why? You are developers of one of the most advanced 3D engines on the market and you can’t figure out how to do some proper beta-testing of your own forum without disrupting its functionality and users/customers use of it ?
I mean, along with the whole marketplace huge slowdown issues all of this doesn’t look good marketing wise, at all. You should absolutely avoid any of this… you are not a small or tiny indie software house and you aren’t a single guy a single freelancer with his own apps and personal forum to support customers or anything like that so people would accept the issues mostly understanding that a small business would need a lot of time to fix things up.
First of all, Epic games are not Web developing company.
Engine still their main product, and some people working there may not even heard of web development.
Second, afaik whole Web infrastructure supported by a group of a few people. Same people for Unreal Forums, same for Paragon, same for Fortnite etc. There’s no point to have a fullstack web developer (however…).
I’ve already said that this situation is … ridiculous.
It’s Sunday, if we add Epic Friday (each last Friday of the month devs working on own projects), - 3 days of no major updates is understandable.

Really need to reduce the amount of whitespace between items, and make the posts stretch to fill the page. So annoying that only half of my screen space is being used, and most of it is wasted on whitespace.
In general, responsiveness is really poor too. Forums are slower than they used to be - it might not be much, but it’s enough to be annoying.
UPDATE!
The quick session timeouts were resolved over the weekend.
Reindexing has completed and Search should now yield correct results.
Stickied posts are now only listed on page 1, allowing more posts on subsequent pages
The issue with external links is still being worked on so they redirect appropriately.
Updated themes are still on the agenda.
You can try the dark theme from S-ed that have a much better layout.
http/2 is unavailable on these servers which is a shame these days, tho it would require the page to be better setup. Certain articles informed us about better content alignment would help a great deal. CSS-Tricks - Tips, Tricks, and Techniques on using Cascading Style Sheets.
We missed the black theme.
Can you please increase the number of threads shown per page? this should be relatively easier than anything else you have on your list. To my experience it’s just an input box with a number in it.
