Currently it seems, that it is not possible to paint vertex color on nanite objects inside editor (imported vertex colors works). Is it planned to add support for this? I am designing asset pipeline, so it would be good to know, if we can count on this. Thanks.
I ve just found workaround. It is possible to disable nanite, export vertex painting into source mesh and then enable nanite egain.

You dear sir just saved my day.
Megascans are great, pretty and not game ready (unless you have nasa computer).
Even with NASA computer. You have to retexture and optimize in other ways (how depends on your use case), to have reasonable memory footprint and drawcalls. But still great source, these modifications can be partialy automatized for example in Houdini.
I know, and i am doing that. Last piece for me was that vertex paint.
