Nanite Related Rendering Bug on 5.7/5.8

Summary

I have been experiencing rendering issues that are exacerbated by nanite on recent versions of unreal engine. Terrain at a sharp transition seems to be either transparent or missing, or just pure black when viewed at a shallow angle to the ground.

What Type of Bug are you experiencing?

Rendering (Graphics / Niagara)

Steps to Reproduce

  1. create a new blank file
  2. enable nanite on the default terrain
  3. fly the camera close to the ground and look towards the mountains

Expected Result

A clean transition from flat to hilly, with no artifacts.

Observed Result

An inconsistent line flickering between the hills and plains.
