Nanite for Foliage doesn't work

Hello.
I recently got into UE 5.1 and I wanted to try out Nanite for Foliage.
I just picked a random plant out of Quixel Brigde and checked ‘enable nanite support’ in the mesh settings.
I also turned on nanite by right clicking on the mesh in the content drawer. Preserve area is also active. SM6 for windows is also active.

However, when i zoom out with the camera, the LOD of that mesh still changes and turns into a bilboard without shadow.
Enabling nanite visualization (triangles) also shows me that there are no triangles on that mesh, despite all the settings being active.
A friend of mine sent me a project in which the nanite triangles can be seen. I added a mesh in that project and nanite took effect. That means something in my project’s settings is off. I already tried resetting the loadout etc, nothing works.

Any help is appreciated.
