Hello there! A few months ago, I was introduced to Unreal Engine 5 in order to make clothes for MetaHuman and render them for my portfolio. In it, I discovered so many great features like quickly creating your own realistic character, animating or creating poses/emotions, and hair physics that I haven’t seen anywhere else. But I faced a very frustrating problem at the very end of the long process of learning UE features, fixing a bunch of complications that have arisen to implement my ideas. I stuck with lighting and materials (especially translucent and reflective) displayed weirdly and my renders look bad. The most concluding part of the job that separates me from uploading work to my portfolio, man!
I’ve watched many tutorials about lighting setup, post process effects and render, tried repeating all the settings exactly the same, and many of them even didn’t work. So the results were also absolutely not the same, and they still look bad. I tried working in MetaHuman Environment and create the environment and all the settings from blank.
My renders for example:
(this looks some better cause was created with MetaHuman Environment, but only one-color background looks boring)
Also the display of the textures are very different in a bad way from other 3D software. For example, how they display in UE
and how much better they look in Blender
Even though I’ve spent hours to make shoes transparent textures to look like this because the same opacity map works absolutely different in UE. Other example translucent and metallic materials don’t have reflections
And now I’m trying to figure out whether to keep trying to render in UE or figure out how to fully port MetaHuman to Blender for better renders. Maybe you can tell me what my problem is? Did I forget to switch something on? Really need an outside perspective, I’m racking my brain over this for so long.
P.S. Sorry for my poor choice of words, English isn’t my native language.
