I’m working on a Metroidvania type horror game and I want to add some illumination to a pitch black setting. I’ve noticed that some games and side-scrollers that have that vignette that tracks the character in dark areas, and partially, dimly lighting up a small area around the character (along with the character) while still alluding to it being dark. It resembles a fog of war in a 2d setting almost. I’ve tried to look up tutorials but they don’t cover this feature. How would one be able to set this up?
Below is a screen from a game that has that feature.
Hey there @shadowxone! Welcome back to the community! So this isn’t 1:1 what you need for the vignette but it would get you pointed in the direction. You could skip all of the traces and just do a material over the area, unless you wanted it to be obscured by collisions like the lighting from something like darkwood. This might point you in a possible direction!
