(MAybe NOT so) silly question about making commercial product with UnrealEngine.

Hello.
I’ve got some maybe silly but for sure serious question.

Is our EpicAccount common, shared for entertainment and commercial purposes?
I mean, I now see and understand that on the same EpicAccount I have my library with games, through the same account I installed and am now working in Unreal Engine + through the same account I enter MArketplace and BUY assets , which I plan to use in future projects(and have in my klibrary,VAULT for assets)

Now my important question:
if in X years (solo indie dreamer here;) I will actually manage to finish, make a cool product, a game that will have a chance to interest the audience=make some money. Then all the formalities related to the exhibition and sale of the game, product will also be handled by,on this SAME account?
I hope that I will not have to create a second, “corporate” account? I don’t know how then would be the right to license to all the assets that I now accumulate, buy on my Epic account.
In short, I would not like to find out in X years that, yes, I invested X amount of money to buy assets such as game music, models, but unfortunately, the rights to them I have on my account “to play/for games” and I should have some other, business account to release the game and now I simply can not use them, to release my product.

I know, almost certainly my fears are unfounded, but I prefer to make sure.

Thank you for your understanding and your help, regards

Before you publish your game you need to fill in the release form

https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/release

This is the formal part that has to do with the release & royalties tracking and the eligibility to get the 1 million $ revenue exemption.

There is a lot more formal tape to go through before you release your game than just owning an epic account. This stuff is filled out regardless of your epic account.

hi @LZGDev ,

This post asks similar questions, but your are better off with the new process
I am indie non-us and my account is working, even though I have nothing to sell :joy: .

Questions regarding selling games made with ue5, tax collection by Epic, and filing sales reports to Epic)

You really need to think about the future which will be the FAB store, (currently only available in Fortnite UEFN).

The view of many is its better to have a new personal sales account name and keep your original account for Downloads.

With the new security features being “enforced” meaning security codes to you phone/email you are best of starting with a new account.

FAB is the future from 2025 and low sales on Marketplace are not helping survival of that market

The view on the old Epic Market place is not good

first time I hear about FAB, will check later fir sure
BUT I hope, assume that even if I one day go,move to FAB store, all the assets and rights, I will own through buying assets on Epic Marketplace will still work (forever I would say;) ?
After all, Epic owns both.
Just wanna be sure buying, gathering asets now on this account will not be a shot in the foot.

Ok, but I’m not thinking of using the account to sell assets on the marketplace.
As I mentioned, I’m just asking if my “to play” account can be the same one on which I now buy assets from the marketplace to create my own game. By implication-perhaps someday to sell the game as a finished product.
For this I don’t think I need to create a new Epic account? Given that I have already invested some money in the purchase of assets, with a view to creating a specific game.
And here was my question- since I already bought these assets,on this Epic account,I assume that the licenses, rights to them I have only on this account= I have them present in the VAULT of this particular account.
If I create a new Epic account now, my Marketplace Vault will be empty= I won’t see there all my stuff bought here,on my current account.

Or maybe I have misunderstand you?
I can now create the entire game, product on my account (using purchased assets) and let’s say in X years, when I get to the stage of completing the paperwork for selling, putting the game up for sale, I will set up a second, clean Epic account, let’s say a “company” account, just for purpose of selling my game?
But then how will my license, rights to assets - e.g. music, which I have now purchased and have on the current account? Do I have, for example, these rights to use music purchased for the game not only on my current account? Isn’t it assigned to this specific EPIC account and not to me as an individual?

@LZGDev ,

You cannot make a personal account shared to become a group account.

Once you have an asset purchased it stays with that account. No transfer will be allowed

Many indie dev/players fall into the trap of the same account for working and selling.

Selling account will be used be used to upload new products owned by you!, if making sales for tax purposes an auditor/ accountant, IRS consultant might want to login to this account.

You cannot split the purchased assets between personal accounts or extra accounts on Marketplace.

You will be able to under NEW store. Personal group licence will allow up to 10 people to use the assets.

ok,Jimbohalo10 just few,probably last questions;)

YES,I understand that assets I bought are strictly connected to my account.
As I said- I unfortunately already made that “mistake”(maybe it is not so bad?) that I started my UnrealEngine adventure through the same account I was using for last few years just for playing. BUT now I almost don’t play anymore- spending lot of time for learning the engine and ofc I began to gather some marketplace assets= monthly free giveaways + I already BOUGHT few assets, paying some money for them.
SO now I have on my Epic account some games AND more and more marketplace assets for developement purposes. All of them on that one and same account.

I understand there is another part of journey- that last part connected with publishing product and selling it (as 3dRaven pointed one post beforeyours).

JUST wanted to be sure ,if it can work that way.
As you said -best would be doing it from start from fresh account but now it’s too late for me,in my opinion. I don’t wanna lose all marketplace assets I already gathered on my vault, cannot afford to lose all assets I already paid for and during this May sale I would even like to buy few more.

SO JUST wanna be sure I can continue this way-using that one and only one Epic account for creating my game and gathering more assets from marketplace .

LAst question. You said: Many indie dev/players fall into the trap of the same account for working and selling.

Weren’t you mistaken here,? You mean working and selling, NOT “playing and working”?
I hope I understood you correctly.
You are indicating here that we should remember LATER to create a new account for all these publishing and selling procedures?
BUT for now, I hope it’s not a disaster, a critical mistake that I started accumulating resources = free and PAID assets from the UnrealMarketplace in the same account where I played for many previous years? Turn my “gaming” account into my “workplace”?
