material problems on imported fbx

Please excuse me if I leave some details out or do something wrong, I am extremely frustrated at the moment! Here is my situation:
I am redirecting a mesh to the default SK_Mannequin skeleton so that I can use those animations. I have been able to do this using the Maximo animation pack and the Vanguard model. Though I am having trouble with the Mortimus model.
When I export the model and re import it without doing anything to it, the material displays correctly in one small part, the rest is black. When I re import it as a skeletal mesh, I can see that the UV maps is doing some unexpected things.

I would really appreciate if someone can assist me on this one. I am unable to attach the texture file due to size, however it is clear by adding any material to it that something is wrong.
