Material Layer/blend

Hi all, apologies if this is a silly question but I’d really like some clarity and I’m not having much luck finding it.

Is it possible to combine materials with different Blend Modes to get back parameters that are disabled when setting to one Blend Mode or another?

For instance, with the Blend Mode to Translucent we lose the metallic and specular parameters (among others). I’m wondering if it’s possible to use, say, a material layer or material layer blend node such that by combining two materials of different blend modes (e.g. one material set to Opaque and one set to Translucent) so I can get back those parameters. So far I’ve not had any success and so am curious if it’s just not possible or maybe I’m going about it all wrong.
