Lighting Issue

Been trying to troubleshoot this problem for weeks and I’m pretty stumped. I’ve got pretty consistent lighting throughout my scene but there are several instances where portions of wall are significantly brighter.

Not super confident about my lumen settings but changes were partially to remove some noise I was seeing.

Precomputed lighting/lightmaps are disable I believe. I’m only using dynamic lighting as well. I don’t know what other settings I should reference to solve this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey @nastynate!

It LOOKS like you have some lights from outside the room pointing down- these shots look like they’re lit from behind the walls:

See if you can find any extra lights outside of the scene that are an issue.

Also: Is there a reason not to use static lights in some places? just wondering.

Hope that helps!

Since I’m fairly new to UE dynamic lights were (seemingly) simpler to get the desired lighting effect. I don’t believe that its the downlights as I’ve turned off all the lights in the project and these area are still illuminated. I’m using an HDRI and I’ve toggled it as well with no changes noted.

Wait. You turned off ALL LIGHTS in the project and it’s still illuminated?

You’re sure? Because if there are 0 lights there should be 0 illumination- Even emissive materials don’t actually give off light so there should be just darkness if there’s no lights.

Did you get rid of the Directional light(Sun) and everything?

I was actually wrong about all the lights. Turns out the lighting on the red door was due to the strip lights on the floor. I had to change the self illuminance to an extremely low number. I had been turning on and off the point lights on the ceiling and walls directly but this model is imported from revit so those lights were actually hosted in objects. Once I toggled the visibility of the objects themselves, this has seemed to reset the lighting I was seeing.
