We have some new 5000-series machines that are crashing early during launch; sometimes GPU crashes, sometimes in nvidia drivers.
Since this could take serious time to pin down (since engineers on the team don’t have these GPUs yet), this post is to check in with you on if there are any known issues with UE 5.5 on Nvidia 5000-series GPUs.
This turned out to be caused by the internal/default GPU benchmark (UGameUserSettings::RunHardwareBenchmark), so there’s likely a legit issue there. Perhaps the built-in benchmark is exposing a panic at the Nvidia driver layer. I’d expect Epic can reproduce it by running this code on a 5000-series Nvidia GPU. 5080, in our case.
Hello! Yes, we’ve had several reports of this on the 50 series with driver versions 576.xx and higher and posted a technote for TwinMotion about it and we’ll likely recommend something similar for vanilla UE:
The technote has several recommendations depending on the specific GPU you have, some have older drivers available and other GPUs don’t. If you can avoid the auto benchmark on these GPUs that should avoid the crash until a driver update is released.
Just wanted to post a reminder that Epic is on holiday break from 6/30 - 7/11, returning on 7/14. Confidential issues will be unanswered during that time but non-confidential issues will be answered, but likely with slower response times.
