This is probably the same as
Where the island needs at least two users playing the game with Privacy set to Public.
When an island has no players,
1. Start the game
- Press the keyboard escape key
- Click Return to lobby
- In the lobby, start the game again
- just keeps saying “Connecting…”
- for 10 minutes, then “Network Error” and returns to the lobby.
- Now you have to stop Fortnite because every island has the same problem
- Start Fortnite and play island with two or more users, and the island will connect
- This affects all consoles and PC with the “Server not responding” error message occasionally
