[issue] Enemy Nameplates disappear beyond 150m in UEFN (hurts open-world party games)

Summary

Hello Epic Team,

There is a serious issue with the built-in Fortnite nameplate system in UEFN that doesn’t match Creative 1.0 behavior:

In Creative 1.0, enabling “Always Show To All” allowed all player nameplates (including enemies) to be visible at unlimited distance, regardless of team.

In UEFN, even with “Always Show To All” enabled, enemy nameplates are hard-capped at ~150 meters, while teammate nameplates remain infinite as expected.

This is a big problem for my island because:

My game is an open-world party game with multiple teams, where spotting other players across large distances is core to the experience.

Because enemy nameplates disappear at 150m, players think there’s no one else in the world, which ruins the immersion and gameplay experience in large-scale maps.

We currently have no Verse API or HUDController option to override this restriction

Island Settings

Steps to Reproduce

Create an island with at least 2 teams in UEFN.

Set Player Nameplates → Always Show To All in island settings.

Playtest in a live session: enemy nameplates vanish beyond ~150 meters, while teammates’ nameplates remain visible infinitely.

Expected Result

“Always Show To All” should actually override any default distance limits for all players (just like Creative 1.0)

Observed Result

Enemy nameplates vanish after ~150m, breaking the intended open-world experience for multi-team party games.

Additional Notes

Note: All related settings across Teams, Island Options, and Class Designer nameplate configurations are fully synchronized and identical, confirming this is not a misconfiguration issue

This issue heavily impacts large map designs and makes UEFN feel inconsistent compared to Creative 1.0.
Please investigate or provide a way to remove the hard distance limit on enemy nameplates when the island setting explicitly says “Always Show To All”.

Thank you.

I have the same problem, it is really annoying and I don’t know when it will be fixed.

Yup this should be looked at, there’s instances where they don’t show even tho you’re not further than 150m, then if you leave and join another session it might work just fine… There’s definitely a problem here.

I’m also facing this issue in UEFN. The 150m limit on enemy nameplates makes large open world maps feel empty and breaks the gameplay experience.
Creative 1.0 allowed unlimited nameplate visibility, and bringing that option back or letting us control the distance would solve this major problem for many creators.

Hi @Flak,
Could you please take a look at this issue I reported? Enemy nameplates in UEFN are still capped at 150m even with “Always Show To All,” unlike Creative 1.0 where they were unlimited.
This negatively impacts my island’s gameplay experience, especially on large scale maps, and there’s no current workaround.

What happens if you put the distance on more than 150 ? very weird You could try the player marker device as a work around

I’ve already set the option to Always Show to All with unlimited distance for everyone, but the system still seems to enforce a 150m limit on enemy team nameplates.
Regarding the player marker device, I appreciate the suggestion, but it unfortunately causes performance issues (lag), so it’s not really a practical workaround in this case.

This issue needs to be fixed as my island relies on permanent player nameplates. With 40 players per session, a large map, and 24 different teams, this limitation causes major problems for my island’s gameplay experience.

One last point I’d like to clarify: the Player Marker device fundamentally relies on the nameplate system itself. Even if I applied the suggested workaround, it wouldn’t actually solve the problem. There is currently no real solution, not through Verse code nor any other device, which makes this limitation even more critical to address.

I’m facing the same issue in my open-world map. Enemy nameplates disappear even though I enabled “Always Show To All.” It really affects the gameplay, especially since my map relies on players being able to see each other across long distances. It ruins the experience and makes the world feel empty. Please fix it.

Yeah same here, this bug is killing my map experience too. Enemy nameplates vanishing at 150m makes the world feel dead. We really need a quick fix for this asap.

We have a repro here and the team is investigating. Thank you for the report!
