Install Button 5.6 does nothing

As title says, when I click on 5.6.0 install button nothing happens…

I have several versions installed and never had issues.

Now I finally wanted to test 5.6 but it simply does not install.

I deleted epic games launcher cache to no avail, I reinstalled launcher to no avail.

I definitely have enough space on disk…

HI @TOYSTORYLAB ,
First, try running the Epic Games Launcher as administrator.
It’s a bit odd that you still see version 5.6.0, since on my end it already shows 5.6.1, which replaced the previous build with the hotfix

There’s also a thread that talks about this topic.

I also found a post where people shared several possible solutions to the install button issue ,maybe one of them will help:

Hope it helps!

Thanx for chiming in.

I already did run as administrator to no avail.

Yeah, odd 5.6.1 does not show up.

I am not in studio anymore but will check those links tomorrow.

Thanks

Unfortunately still not able to install. Install button simply does not react ;-(

I assume there are no other ways to install?

Damned…

I uninstalled everything related to Epic/Unreal, tried to remove every trace and reinstalled launcher.

Still no UE install possible!

This is a disaster for me… I really need help ;-(

After working over 5 years with Unreal, I can not use it anymore, it simply won’t install.

I uninstalled every version I had, every trace of Unreal/Epic, hoping to get a restart.

I just upgraded from win 10 to win 11 and it still does not work.

Sorry for all caps, but I NEED HELP URGENTLY!

Thanx

@TOYSTORYLAB ,
I was reviewing the video and noticed that clicking the Install button triggers a refresh of the Fab Library assets in the background.

This indicates that the Launcher is refreshing at that exact moment, which interrupts the install action.

Try the following steps:

Clear the Launcher cache

  • Close the Epic Games Launcher.
  • Delete these folders:
    • …\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved
    • …\AppData\Local\UnrealEngine\Common
  • Reopen the Launcher.

Unify installation paths

  • In Downloands Settings , set both the Default Install Directory and VaultCache to the same drive.

  • Example:

    • C:\Epic\Engines
    • C:\Epic\VaultCache
  • Try clicking Install again.

    If that doesn’t work

  • Check if the folder G:\EPIC\UE_5.6 exists. If it does, delete it.

  • Restart the Launcher and try installing again.

Verify permissions on external drives (G: and F:)

  • Right-click the folder: Properties - Security.
  • Make sure your user account has “Full Control”.

I also found this video that may help:

Let me know if any of these worked for you , if not, we’ll dig deeper and see what else it could be

Thanx for chiming in again!

Unfortunately non of this worked…

I noticed though that I as a User (as Administrator I have) did not have “Full Control) over My G/Drive.

So I wanted to change that (took a while as it scans through everything on G) and 2 Folders prevented this.

I also can not delete them…

One is called “Program Files” with a subfolder “ModifiableWindowsApps”

This can be opened (Sub is empty) but not deleted.

And one called “WindowsApps”

I can not open nor delete it…

So a general “Full Control” over G for me as a user was not possible.

Me as an Admin I have though.

I also checked whether I as a User have “Full Control” over a new Folder in G called “EPIC”

with 2 subfolders “Engines” and “VaultCache”. I have, both as User and as Admin.

I ran launcher as User and as Admin, still no reaction when I click “Install”.

I noticed though that in AppData/Local/UnrealEngine a “4.27” folder is created,

with sub Saved/Config/Windows/Manifest.ini

When I wanted to reproduce this, first nothing happened, though when closing Launcher, and also exit Launcher,

a crash Reporter appeared and produced that ominous 4.27 folder… (though I “installed” 5.6)

After this I also tried installing 4.27  to na avail…

Regarding “noticed that clicking the Install button triggers a refresh of the Fab Library assets”, the video is misleading.

I have thousands of assets from Marketplace/Fab, it takes a while to get loaded.

When I wait until all are loaded and click install, nothing changes on that matter…

In case a launcher log is helpful:

EpicGamesLauncher.log (60.6 KB)

image
The log shows that the Epic Games Launcher is trying to query the available builds from Epic’s servers, but the request fails with an HTTP 504 Gateway Timeout error.
This means the server is not responding in time, so the Launcher interprets that there are no applications associated with your account , which leaves the install button locked.

I checked several forums and found the following:

Some users reported that the issue was fixed by opening the Launcher from the taskbar with right click then Library (as shown in the video I shared above).

It is also recommended to temporarily disable antivirus or firewall software, as they may interfere.
Others mentioned that the problem solved itself after a while, since it appears to be related to Epic’s servers.( Now it seems that the servers are working correctly, so I don’t think this is the problem.. )

If none of this works, the best option is to contact Epic Games Support so they can check the issue on their side.

Thanx again…

I am at home now but will check tomorrow your new workaround when in studio.

And if this does not work I hope the link you gave will give me access to direct support…

Thank you!

Still nothing works, disabled firewall/anti virus.

The link you provided is not really helpful as it directs to the standard “How can we help?” sites…

It seems I (as an indie animator) have no possibility to contact Epic directly ;-/

I spent a little fortune on Marketplace/Fab over the years and now I can not use the software…

Any hints on direct support would be helpful…!

Seems I just was able to contact via Email…

Unfortunately still no progress…

So I decided to install UE via GitHub Source.

Has its cons though:
