Hey guys I imported a character model and the fact has some weird artifacting on it. It is being caused by the lights but Ive tried switching the lights to stationary, moveable, etc. but the artifacts stay the same. Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it?
Hello there @Yaboiidaequan !
Those look like hard edges reacting to the light, or the way the UVs are cutting of that section of the texture. Check your mesh in Blender for any hard edges in those areas, and the flow of your UV as well. Do the artifacts show up with base color viewport only?
The edges of the mesh and UV’s are fine. Also if I change materials the model still has the issues.
Update: I turned off cast shadows for the mesh and the issue went away, but I need the mesh to cast shadows, not sure if this helps.
Thank you for the confirmation, that means the artifacts should be tied to the shape and smoothness of your model, and how the light bounces on it.
Test by modifying your light source, increasing Shadow Bias to 0.7, while reducing Shadow Slope Bias to 0.3. Adjust the values further until the artifacts dissapear:
Alternatively, you can adjust your rendering settings, and enable Virtual Shadow Maps:
virtual shadow maps is already are turned on and i tried adjusting the light source based on your feedback but nothing changed, any other suggestions?
