I can’t get this room dark. I would like it to be lit very dimly by indirect sunlight reflected on the wall seen on the right (first image). But I noticed that when I set the intensity light of the sun on 0 (directional light), the room is always lit when it should be completely dark since there is no other light sources (second image). How do I solve this?
you probably also have a skylight in the scene. Try adjusting the intensity on that as well.
You didnt mention if this is realtime or baked, but if it is not realtime you will need to bake the level in order to see changes.
problem is auto exposure…go to project settings look for auto exposure and turn it off.
It seems the engine is trying to compensate exposure as you change lights to make it lighter or darker
@eldany.uy is right. Additionally, you can place a post-process Volume and turn the Autoexposure off in there.
Skylights in Unreal 4 are unshadowed unless you use baked lighting. Moveable skylights will beam light in all directions through all meshes. Moveable skylights can cast DFAO, but you may find the quality undesirable and it will still not produce realistically dark interiors.
If you want realistic results, you will need to bake.
