Is there any way to download the learning examples without launcher? Can somebody make those available?
We are looking at how to get the sample content (e.g. Open World, Particles, Automobile Shader Collection
Here seems to be a list:
The only way Epic Games distributing the Assets is the Launcher. I’m sorry, but unfortunately, it’s not available for Linux, as this platform is not considered as supported yet.
So far the only way is to run the Windows. You could use someone’s PC with windows to log on to Launcher by using own credentials. After running the launcher You will be asked to accept EULA, that permits You to download and use the assets.
Developing on Linux is tough path, as there are many things not yet completed. More questions could be asked on IRC:
IRC @ freenode #unrealengine
IRC @ freenode #ue4linux
Thanks for letting us know. We do not have any Windows machines here. We are standardized on Linux with some Macs.
Would it be an option for someone else to download the free samples from EPIC and upload them in the GITHub (just like the other starter content)? That would be really helpful and at least gives us some of the standard materials to play with.
A colleague installed the Unreal package for Windows and when starting, it crashes:

There’s Launcher for Mac.
Launcher uses UE4 engine, and probably won’t run under VMware.
Epic actually has an internal build of the launcher that runs under Linux, but they won’t release it, even though it would be a simple thing to do. Probably more then likely still beholden to Microsoft and their corporate lobbyists to stifle any development on Linux.
Are there any updates on that?
There is this, Epic Asset Manager | Flathub
On gamedev.net I got recommended legendary (some distros have it as a ready pkg, Garuda Arch does), which worked out well for my use-case of fetching free asset packs — those you previously manually added to your Vault in the Marketplace’s Web UI, that is.
Do I understand this correctly: There is allegedly full Linux support for Unreal Engine as well as an installation guide, but still no way to either install the launcher directly under Linux or to download the learning assets (or other material?) without the launcher?
