Hello there, I saw the cool " Project Optimization in UEFN | Unreal Fest 2023" talk on youtube and am about to replace some static meshes with HISM. In the video the tutor can just alt-drag around HISM instances to create new ones.
In reality though, when i do that it creates a new Hierarchical Instanced Static Mesh instead of an instance.
When i create an instance by clicking on the + symbol, i am not able to select it in the viewport or move it around. It always selects the the parent actor or mesh.
I found a few people in UE forums comlplaining about the opposite a few years ago. Mentioning they cannot select the parent actor, only the instance.
So i assume Epic reverted the default to parent selection instead of instance selection.
In UEFN however, i cannot edit the project settings or open the console to type in a command.
So, Is there a way to select only the instance of a HISM in the viewport and move it around? Like he does in the video? In UEFN?
Hello @AscendantForge
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Locally, I was able to recreate similar issues that you are discussing, and I obtained very different results from the video, identical to yours. I was unable to select the Children Instances, Instances were also not inheriting transforms, and similar.
I will escalate this issue through the internal pipelines to ensure a timely resolution.
Thanks,
Zim

Hey @Zim_TechArt thanks for taking care! I got the tipp that the way it works has changed and you have to click multiple times to select the children.
1 Click = select the parent actor/BP.
2 Clicks = select the HISM.
3 Clicks = select the instance.
This is actually a very cool and smart way IMO. The issue is just: Where to get that information from? xD

Thank you for that information. I was not aware of that interaction myself either.
I will raise that issue with the team and see if they can find a suitable solution for displaying this to users in the editor.
Thank you very much.
