Help with Lighting and Rendering for a VR Archviz Project

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me.

I am working on an Archviz project and have made it as far as building everything to a point I am happy with within the render view. Now I am trying to take the project into VR and have managed to get the functionality working with no issues.

However I was a little disappointed by the quality of the lighting and reflections in VR compared to the UE5 preview.

What do I need to change/install so my lighting and reflections will look similar to the preview window?

I’m using the Ultra Dynamic Sky plug-in if that helps.

Some preview window vs VR screenshots for reference.

Hi @Gazzaril,

Nice screenshots. So, what I’m assuming is that you’re getting disappointing results because Lumen (The new dynamic global illumination system that basically allows the light bouncing off the wood floor to impact the room) is not yet VR compatible.

Good news though, Lumen support is planned for 5.1 (It’s possible to compile 5.1 from source now, I’m also expecting 5.1 preview versions to be available for download from the launcher in a month or two)

Another avenue would be to dig deeper into baking bounced light. (Precomputed lighting via Unreal’s Lightmass system)

Let us know if you have any troubles with Lumen + VR once 5.1 drops! Welcome to the Forums.

Appreciate the response.

Perhaps I’ll look into baked lighting while I wait for 5.1 to release.

My only concern with baked lighting initially was that I want the functionality for day and night cycle using Ultra Dynamic Skies and I wasn’t sure if that would deminish any of the UDS effects.

Thanks for the suggestion and I am eagerly awaiting 5.1
