Having lights affect fog?

Something Ive noticed that is a huge annoyance and immersion breaker is the fact that light doesn’t seem to affect fog. I have an interior section in my map that is completely dark, and my map has dense fog, when you go inside, you can see the fog in the complete dark. Is there any way to fix this?

Hello Shirk,

The image you posted looks like there is an opening or a doorway to this room. This light being let in will definitely illuminate that room. If you are intending to have a dark room with an opening as suggested from the image, you should change the Post Process settings to either turn off the ‘Auto-Exposure’ or increase the darkening value.

You can find these settings within the ‘Global Post Process’ volume or whichever post process is in your scene. Use the image posted as a reference. If you try these suggestions and are getting the same results let me know and we can troubleshoot further.

Thanks,

Thats not really the problem at all, the room is completely dark, but the fog is causing the room to not look completely dark. The fog outlines the walls and floors, and can also be seen in complete darkness.

In that case take a look at the settings for Exponential Height Fog within the Documentation and see if you understand what each setting controls. You could be overlooking a minor detail change like the “Directional Inscattering Color.”
