Hair strands shading problems

Hey i’m having some problems with hair. Just trying to test it out. It’s really cool but I’m getting weird black spotty areas whenever a strand is facing a light source. The shadows seem to be working fine its more of a shading issue. From the back everything is looking fine but when a strand is towards a light source it gets ugly black areas. I’v tried using lumen and non lumen scenes and the material scalability levels. The ‘scattering’ option in the hair material doesn’t seem to do anything. Also for some reason whenever I get close to the hair the cast shadows seem to disappear as you can see in the pictures. If you turn off the shadow density it turns off the shadows and you can see the black spots better - in the last image. Anyone know what’s up or have any tips?

So I narrowed it down to an indirect lighting problem. There’s something off about the way the hair is rendered just in indirect lighting. I attached some pictures to show it. UE5 does say that hair and groom is supposed to work with lumen so is this a bug? I think there should be some way to control this in the material
The other problem of the cast shadows disappearing when close up is still there and i’m not sure how to fix that

Just playing around with this more and it seems like the hair shading model is only really suited to hairs that have a similar root points, like a head, and lay at a somewhat similar flat angle. It falls apart when the hairs start tangling or mixing from different sources. Just wondering if epic has any plans to let us use different shading models with grooms? Right now its locked to the hair one. Excited to use strand based rendering with other things.
Or does anyone know how to change the shader type for grooms?
