Hair Raytraced Shadows Not Affecting SSS Back Scattering (Subsurface Profile)

Hello,

Regarding the ticket: ‘Hair Shadows Not Affecting SSS Back Scattering (Subsurface Profile)’

[Case: [Content removed]

When “Use Hair Ray Tracing Geometry” is enabled on a groom asset, it no longer casts shadows on the SSS back scattering.

Would it be possible to add support for ray tracing in this context as well?

The debug scene can be found attached to this closed ticket.

Thank you!

Hi,

I haven’t looked into the details, but I believe it should be possible

I won’t be able to look at it before at least another week. Pretty busy at the moment, and travelling for work next week.

Hi,

I managed to find some time to investigate the issue. It turns out to be a simple fix. In the shader /Engine/Shaders/Private/RayTracing/RayTracingOcclusionRGS.usf, in side the function float ComputeDiffuseTransmission(), you just need to change the code from

const uint InstanceInclusionMask = RAY_TRACING_MASK_OPAQUE;to

const uint InstanceInclusionMask = RAY_TRACING_MASK_OPAQUE | RAY_TRACING_MASK_THIN_SHADOWI hope this helps.

/Charles.
