Hair groom disappears in the middle of a sequence

I have a metahuman animation recorded in Take Recorder from a Live Link animation driven by iClone using Timecode sync. The animation looks good but in the middle of it the hair groom disappears from the Metahuman.

Curiously, if I have the spawned metahuman selected in the Outliner, the hair groom does not disappear. Here is a quick video that illustrates the problem:

I am curious whether anyone may have any ideas what might be going on here.

To get the usual questions out of the way:

  • the groom exists only at LOD 0 and LODSync forces the LOD to 0 for the groom.
  • the groom has a binding asset that binds it to the face skeleton
  • the groom disappears both when playing the sequence in the editor and when rendering via MRQ.
  • there are other moments in the sequence when the groom flickers in and out of existence but these are not easily repeatable

After hours of searching, it turns out that ticking “include component location into bounds” seems to resolve this issue as explained in this post
