Graphical Artifacts from Depth of Field Background Gather at Reduced Resolutions.

The issue that we’re seeing is some visual artifacts being produced from the depth of field post process while at reduced render resolutions. So far we’ve only seen it on Xbox Series S and X. Depending on the current resolution the effect is more or less pronounced. It a appears like large blocks of pixels along the right or bottom edge of the screen.

I believe this is first appearing when DOF.FlattenBgdCoc is created. From the picture the entire right edge appears to be getting detected.

It’s then dilated and then the chunky blocks appear when rendering DOF.GatherBackground. Which later get combined into the final render.

I’m not sure what the cause here would be but I would guess something like a rounding error from the reduced resolution it causing the right or bottom sides to be detected as edges.

Hi, we have a QA engineer trying to reproduce this issue, but unsuccessfully so far. Do you have a repro project you can share with us? That would allow us to verify any fixes we develop, and make sure they address your issue.

Just throwing a quick +1 on this, as we also have this issue. Our current workarounds are to turn off DoF, or increase the resolution. We turned off Dynamic resolution (locked it at 100%) then used r.SecondaryScreenPercentage.GameViewport to roughly dial in performance and get to a resolution that did not reproduce the corruption.

Unfortunately, I do not have an easily sharable repro, but we do a have a set up that reproduces this 100%

Note that, while I believe this is a separate issue, we do have two recent changes to fix related bugs which may be relevant to you: changelists 55318850 and 55392774, or git commits 3a47d66 and 5d1ceed. These are not in any release yet, but can be cherrypicked through P4 or Github.

Another change made recently that may address this issue is 57911342 (or git commit 99cee5)

I’ll see if I can reproduce it. But I am not sure at the moment if it’s just post process settings or a mixture of settings with the content.

Will check these out thanks!

Finally got back to this, this CL seems to have done the trick! Thanks!
