Gpu crash/d3d device removed error?

To be honest, if i could afford it/had the credentials to, i’d wanna go to someplace like the Academy of Art University (or someplace like it, to learn the PROPER methods of designing/building/scripting/animating/writing the details/assets/etc. that MAKE a Videogame) as i have literally dozens of game concepts {most being severly Pre-Alpha sadly}
But i don’t have any such luxury, no Diploma (shetty County that effed me out of it, but shetty education standard here anyway), no GED (not that any1 takes those seriously anyway) & no way of accruing 40-$45k for Tuition/Meal Plans for the place to begin with;
[ …Unless i was dumb enough to want to accrue that much in Student Loan Debt, but since i don’t use traditional Credit Cards, don’t have a Mortgage, Car Payments, nor any OTHER form of bad debt, i have NO Credit Score, which is considered & TREATED the same AS having BAD Credit, so i wouldn’t get approved for any Student Loans to begin with … ]

Also, as for the note about

If there are, they’re nothing i’ve ever heard about, because as far as i know, the only worthwhile (or even accessible) Engines for Game development out there that aren’t Proprietary are Unreal 4, Unreal 5, Unity, & … that’s about it …
… As far as i know all the rest ( ESPECIALLY the super high-end 1s), are kept under lock, key, & MAJOR Cyber-security lockdowns/Firewalls to KEEP them Proprietary (only accessible & useable by the Companies/Studios that OWN them)
… so like, say i wanted to build a game with the Engine Horizon: Zero Dawn is built with, i’d either have to be a big-wig in “The Industry” (in which case, if i was a rich Exec., i might be able to afford my OWN In-House Engine, defeating the initial point), or possibly be part of a Sub-Company that Studio owns;
…or work out some long-winded Contract with them, with HEAVY caveats on how much of the core systems my company would be allowed to access from Source Code Format, & where they get the “Lion’s Share” of the Gross Income (thus potentially bankrupting MY Studio if the game isn’t fan-f**king-tastic ON LAUNCH) & any method would still lead to them having ALOT of Directorial control over what i’m allowed to do with both the Engine AND my own Game too, as it would potentially directly affect their reputation if/when it came out my company formed a Contract to be allowed use of their Engine, & because it’s a Proprietary Engine;
… As, not only would what i do with that Engine be HIGHLY scrutinized by the Studio that owns it, but also what me & my team WROTE into the STORY of the game too (I.E. FORCED Wokeness, unapologetic Political Correctness, & other bs i don’t give a crap about, that doesn’t have ANY place in Videogames in the FIRST place…)

Do some more googling.
Godot is eons above what unreal or unity provide.
Cryengine is another one.

Neither of your replys have much to do with the topic. If you need more guidance make a topic about it (I’d suggest another avenue as this forum really isn’t a great place for anything really. Low traffic, but polycount is less full of r tards).

Are those Engines full Proprietary tho? … cuz if they are, a nobody like me isn’t gonna ever be allowed to work with those, even IF i already knew what i was doing … X_X

This is so wierd. I was struggling with this problem for a 4 month, and it turned out i has a few miner-viruses and other malware which caused those crashes.
So if changing drivers did not work out for u, i recommend u to check your pc with
Dr.Web CureIt and Microsoft Safety Scanner.
I did work out for me, may be it is going to help you as well.

This works

Not working for me… :smiling_face_with_tear:

UE5 5.2, RTX 3090 + Ryzen 9 5950X
536.23 Game Ready drivers, with Studio happens the same.
I’m undervolting with MSI Afterburner an did the Tdr delay regedit setting
I keep having continuous crashes… “DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED with Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG”

Solution still works. Thank you.

This error happens when I try to open Project Lyra, right after it loads it freezes and this error pops up 3 seconds after, anyone got any ideas? My card is a RX 6600

For anybody reading this: in my case (building a VR simulation) the crash was caused by the combination of

  • DirectX 12,
  • using a DrawDebug statement in a BP and
  • running on a GTX 1080.

This combo runs fine on another system with an 4070 onboard.
Switching the Default RHI to DirectX 11 resolved the crash but resulted in lots of flickering (not very useful so the DrawDebug will have to go).

its work for me thanks

Incredible, this worked for me! Thanks!

I can’t find this in the Console variables of my unreal engine file, is there another place to find this?

The DirectX 12 is still crashing in some cases. I have gigabyte nvidia 2070 super OC version. I was with the latest drivers 551.52 and it was crashing with both game-ready and studio drivers. I’m on UE5.3 with RHI on default, but I have DirectX 12 installed. When I changed it to DirectX 11, it wasn’t crashing, but I wasn’t able to use all the good features of ray tracing which makes UE5 useless.
I did a lot of tests, including a change in the GPU frequency, but what really worked was an older version of the driver - 537.13. Here is a link to it:

Thank you all for the conversation on this topic.

the same problem with black screen. Did you solved the problem? :pray:

Hey! I don’t know what is the secret sauce you’ve put there but it worked!!!
I tried every other solution and nothing worked except of this (regedit, drivers, console commands, afterburner, undervolting, etc. - nothing worked).

I have a really massive scene with Nanite and Lumen so it wasn’t an option to switch to DirectX 11. I checked the Project Settings after using your file and I see that it keeps Direct X12, Lumen and Nanite.

The only thing is that Legacy Movie Renderer gave me superweird compression artifacts and flickering. The .avi output was teared up like a dog toy. But using Movie Render Queue gave good results so I guess I can continue working since I wanted to use high quality renderer in the end after all.

Could you please tell what did you do to the file so other people can understand how to debug their projects?

Thank you! Hope it will helps someone else too.

Okay so next day I got Gpu crash/d3d device removed error again, but after working for a while with a piece of a scene. I guess this error is a curse. Seems like I need to save every 30 seconds and continue working. I have couple more solutions from forums that I saved, will try them later.

EPIC GAMES TECH SUPPORT please take a look at this error, a lot of people are struggling and getting bad reputation after missing deadlines because of this error and etc…

It’s quite something to see this thread still going, I’ve one thing to ask however.

Is anyone here aware of the issues with latest high end Intel CPUs? 13900k and 14900 for example.

I’ve had issues with GPU crashes because the render thread is crashing due to the CPU instability issues.

For me the problem has been solved by doing a CPU RMA and ensuring the new CPU is running at Intel default settings.
But I wonder how many people here are experiencing the same thing? Maybe it’s related aside from what I originally put as using RTSS causing the issue.
