Game Crashes - Returning to Lobby From Island

Summary

A large majority of the time when a player leaves the game after playing, their game crashes when they are in the loading screen. This is most likely resulted from a failure in re-loading the Fortnite lobby itself.

I have logs if needed.

Additional Notes

This most likely is connected to the issue Fortnite-wide from a few days ago with hitching in the lobby: https://x.com/FortniteStatus/status/2020126753327284453

hi @ToasterMRVL ,

Well tried you island this works well, even the In-Island Transactions work properly.

Decided not to actually buy the jewels, bit expensive for my tastes  .

Been in and out of games several times and no problems.

The reason for this is possibly that the DirectX 12 graphics drivers have a problem.

There have been black screens coming back to lobby and crashes.

The problems occur on all sort of pcs with different graphics cards and different software drivers across many versions of Windows 11.

The official way to switch to DirectX 11 is to use a start up switch.

How do I force Fortnite to use DirectX 11?

To make this easier this pictures shows Epic Support changes to the Epic Games Launcher for Fortnite

Please could you try this on your PC and see if this changes/fixes the problem for you

Hi Jimbohalo10,

I didn’t expect this to have any connection to in-Island transactions. From the logs it appears to be an issue with Fortnite re-loading the lobby. It could be due to Directx12 - but either way that is something worth reporting that should be explored by Epic. We have 6+ members of our communities who are reporting crashes on their PCs as well - so it definitely is not just an individual issue.

hi @ToasterMRVL ,

When a game/island closes there is a needs for a large amount of Virtual Memory and graphics memory this is in the PC itself and is called a page file and can be seen in Windows Task Manager → Memory. Here my page file, Virtual Memory has used 9.5 of 38.9 GB

Screenshot (208)

This means that my pc will run UEFN and Fortnite together any will then be 28.9/10.0 GB .

This does mean that my PC cannot run any other application like Word/Excel/Power point

These all used virtual memory. When Winterfest was running my pc ran slow and crashed so put the Virtual Memory up to 32GB from 16GB. The automatic setting in Windows 11 in useless and when UEFN builds a large project you need 64GB.

Here is a link on how to setup virtual memory.

How to set up page file 64GB 64000

Often in the UEFN/Fortnite you see Garbage collecting in the Fortnite logs when trying to recover space for Lobby when the game is winding down.

When you enter the island code in Discover a page opens about the island and at the bottom you will see

In-Island-Transactions.

The reason I posted this forum was so Epic would be aware of the overall issue of players who play the experience having crashes when they are loading out of the game.

Players should not have to go through all of these steps to fix their game from crashing whenever they play certain creative islands.

The report is more to make awareness for the overall issue many players are experiencing so Epic could explore the issue further.

The status of FORT-1053597 changed to ‘Needs Triage’. We’ve confirmed the issue and it’s waiting to be assigned to someone to fix it.
